I actually was planning to join facebook eventually. Not at the moment though.

The forums have intellectual discussions sometimes and you could definitely learn a thing or two from other people. Myspace, not so much. I only spent a few minutes a week on myspace, but there's just something about that site that I don't like, not too sure what it is though.

I'm not addicted to it at all but I keep a page. I've heard from some people I haven't heard from in years thanks to that place.

I think myspace is alright. I just hate 90% of the losers that also use it. But in and of itself... it's extraordinarily useful for keeping in touch with non-local friends, especially if they work different shifts and are hard to find by phone. Also, a lot of local community theatre and comedy venues use a myspace page to get the word out regarding future shows. It's useful for friends who want to share pictures easily. It does have it's benefits. I greatly prefer facebook because it's a much CLEANER look and doesnt' seem to have attracted the punk emo goth crowd yet; however far more people I know are already established on myspace so for now, I have accounts at both sites.

I know you are kind of joking around here but why is it automatically assumed that only morons use myspace? It's not that bad of a tool if you aren't using it to promote yourself as some internet hero.

Eh, I have an account there and on Facebook and I don't feel "demeaned" by the fact that I have a profile there. Although, it's generic in design (and I like it that way), I do get annoyed when some punk tells me, "You need to make your myspace super pretty and annoying just like mine" Stupid kids, Myspace already has a relatively poor layout, no need to make it worse with your cometcursor and crap.

There's only two bad things I find out MySpace right now.

1) There's waaaaay too much spam. If I go and look to see if I have a new message or something, I'll have like 5 friend requests... yeah, 4 of the 5 have the same picture with a different generic name. Although I usually check them out to see if there's any hot pics inside .

2) Chain bulletins... are very annoying. The kind where people constantly post some new "quiz" in their bulletin board that's no different than the countless other quizzes that they've taken. Bulletins can be used for a good reason... telling of upcoming events, etc... but I don't care that you have a birthmark on the back of your neck and you like Taco Bell over McDonalds!

I think some people are forgetting that MySpace is not LiveJournal.

Myspace is actually a great place for bands to use and I might use it for my band eventually.
Aikouka is right about the chain bulletins btw, they're worse than the chain letters going around on youtube.
As for keeping in touch with old friends, aim does it really well and usually I can find old friends through other old friends, and I can actually get involved in a conversation with them, although I think that myspace has an im service too(I never used it though).

Please, for the love of god, if you use that for you band, do not spam out friend requests. I HATE bands requesting to be my friend just as much as some spam bot. That is, unless I am actually friends with said band, then it'd make sense. I would like if MySpace had better friend organization as well.. the top 8 crap is worthless compared to categorizing. Oh and MySpace also needs some preference to turn off user changes made to their MySpace pages and default them for your own viewing back to the normal layout.

Alright, I'll try to keep that in mind. I used to get spammed by bands too actually.

while I agree with friend organization idea. The idea of turning off someones page design goes against what the site is about. If you don't like someone's space stay on your myspace home page don't visit their space. Problem solved.
