Hi ATOT!
August 2011 will mark 10 years on the forum for me, but more importantly, I'm getting married!
A few of you may have noticed that I haven't been around much lately. That "real life" thing I'd been hearing so much about over the years seems to have caught up with me.
At work, they've got me traveling around the country explaining econometric modeling to teachers, principals, and superintendants. Not too shabby considering HomeBrewerDude hired me to do scanning and data entry work 5 years ago after I showed promise on the ATOT Ogame team.
(Thanks for doing the beer for the wedding, HomeBrewerDude!)
In September last year, I got on OkCupid to try to find the right girl. It took me seven tries, but I really found "the one". We had our first date at a coffee shop that both of us had driven several miles to get to. About half an hour into that date, we discovered that we lived across the street from each other.
We've seen each other just about every day since then and we're both excited about a future together. We were a 94% match according to OkCupid's matching algorithm based on statistical analysis of our survey answers (that are user-weighted for importance).
Seems right to me!
She's kind, funny, smart, ambitious, confident, and very loving. She works for a local medical software development company writing user guides, doing voice recordings, editing audio, plus she tours the facility picking up slack.
We were even talking about our experiences editing audio using Audacity on our first date.
DrPizza suggested I make a 10 minute video lesson on how to find the perfect mate & get engaged within 6 months.
I don't know if I have enough material for a 10 minute video, so here's cliffs:
1. I started by making some hard choices to improve my situation (financially, emotionally, physically)
2. Started thinking more positively about things and seeing life as an adventure full of opportunities
3. Got up the courage to try to find someone that had the same attitude to share in the "choose your own adventure" life
4. Kept my eyes open in real life and put serious effort into OkCupid and a couple other sites
5. Once I found someone that knocked my socks off, I made a conscious effort to have very open communication
6. We found activities that we both enjoyed doing together and worked those into a routine
7. We're going out a lot, meeting new people, and generally having a blast
8. We're being very honest about our feelings, plans, and things that we can do to improve things
I don't know... I'm just incredibly impressed with how things are going. I've felt so much better about myself in the time leading up to the "mate search", that being in a healthy relationship now has made things so much better.
I guess all these "confidence & communication" sort of tips are really the right track.
You can do it ATOT!

Hey! I just remembered, we need to stalk up a new address for Yoyo to send all of the umm.... congratulations cards!
Well, he's leaving hints as to what he wants for a wedding gift from ATOT. We'll have to look at his 10 minute videos for other ideas. Perhaps a fancy weed puller?
