Hey guys,
Just wanted to share that I'm going Skydiving tomorrow off in Eastern Long Island, NY. It's my first time so I'm doing a Tandem jump. I'm crazy exctied for this- better be good weather!

Anyway, didn't realize it would be so expensive lol- $209 for the jump. I was thinking about getting the dvd of my jump, but that's an extra $89- has anyone gotten one from their jump? Is it worth it?

I saw the other post a couple weeks ago about the guy going skydiving... but, any other advice you guys got?

Oh, which did people prefer- Skydiving or Bungee jumping... I wanna try the latter later this summer perhaps.

And, I will update with pics as soon as I get back tomorrow night, or asap.

Cliffs for the slackers:
1. Going Skydiving in E. LI, NY
2. Dvd of jump worth $89?
3. Advice?
5. Bungee>Skydiving or vice versa
6. Will update with pics ASAP

I will never fully comprehend why people pay perfectly good money to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

I"m auditioning for Drop Zone II with Wesley Snipes . Nah, but it seems awesome and for the thrill of it.

I just did it for the first time this past Saturday. It was a blast! I ordered the DVD, but haven't had a chance to see it yet.

I went back in '97, but it was a free fall jump, so the only advice I have would really apply to the free fall. If you're going tandem, there's not as much training, etc. involved.

My only recommendation would be to try and not tense up too much when you anticipate the chute opening. You'll strain yourself. Other than that, just have a great time!

I'd never bungee jump. For some reason I feel safer suspended underneath a parachute than I do a giant rubberband. I'm not sure which is statistically safer, but I would think the rush from skydiving is probably greater.

Also, I would probably get the DVD. How often are you going to be doing something like this? Might as well capture it to share with your family and friends.

Remember, the number of jumps ALWAYS equals the number of landings.

Ive been twice, both times were about 160 bucks each with a 50 dollar video option. The video's really only good for evidence. Sky Diving > Bungee Jumping and honestly safer in my opinion, especially tandem because the dude you are strapped to isn't going to skip anything on the "before you jump" checklist if it's his ass jumping too.

Haha yea. I've felt that skydiving would be safer too, maybe just because you had 2 shoots whereas only one rope . I was just wondering which people got a bigger thrill from...

Yea, I'm not fond of having another guy strapped to my rear for 10 minutes... but seeing as it's my first time it has to be tandem.

i went last summer, loved it!
going to go this summer and hopefully get certified by the end of the summer if my funds hold out!

and yes, the tandem sucked - i had a 6'3 250lb guy from alabama who goes by the name 'my excellent compatriot-ass' i don't think it can get any worse

Do it if you dare
Leaping from the sky
Hurling thru the air
Exhilarating high
See the earth below
Soon to make a crater
Blue sky, black death
Im off to meet my maker

/chorus/
Energy of the gods, adrenalin surge
Wont stop til I hit the ground, Im on my way for sure
Up here in the air, this will never hurt
Im on my way to impact, taste the high speed dirt

Paralyzed with fear
Feel velocity gain
Entering a near
Catatonic state
Pressure of the sound
Roaring thru my head
Crash into the ground
Damned if Ill be dead

/chorus/

Jump or die!

Dropping all my weight
Going down full throttle
The pale horse awaits
Like a genie in a bottle
Fire in my veins
Faster as I go
I forgot my name
Im a dirt torpedo

High speed dirt...

Enjoy it! I plan to go soon with some friends, for the first time also. We're planning to do ~6hrs of training on the ground first, and then the place will let us do a solo guided jump. It's only about $160 per jump, with the DVD being $59... I wasn't planning on getting a DVD made, unless ya'll can convince me that it's worth it. I would like to go again sometime, and maybe even become licensed if I like it enough, but it costs about $1800 to complete most courses

Nope, do you?

There's the inherent risk of the 2 shoots not opening up, but I tend to believe that's a rare occurence.

Wow you're lucky... the place i'm going only offers a 30-45 min tutorial, and then you tandem jump. I much rather jump alone even if it does take a 6-hour lesson
