If you live near PA, I found a diet soda I really like called diet white birch beer. It seems to be a Pennsylvania thing so the closer you are to it the more likely you'll see it stores. A bunch of supermarkets have generic versions of it although Weis is the only one I've seen a diet version. It's .79-1$ depending on sale for two liters. I think it tastes awesome and it's not nearly as syrupy as diet mountain dew (I still love dmd though); no caffeine either.

I glanced through the thread and you guys sound like a bunch of addicts that say they can handle their drugs. Stick to diet, I only drink 1 litre a month etc.... bunch of crap. You guys are fooling yourself. The best way is to quit is cold turkey. Drink green tee if you need a bust or yerba mate or coffee black. Stop fooling yourself any amount of soda is just bad for you . We were meant to drink water not a bunch of chemicals with something that isn’t' even sugar.

Over the last 5 months, I've given up soda, milk(s), juice, coffee, and tea. I drink water, lots of it.

I'm curious, were you guys allowed soda as kids or is this something you picked up in high school/college?

I had soda regularly as a kid. I didn't have any issues switching to diet. I drink a reasonable amount every day. No desire to stop or anything although I could and have just as easily drink/drunk something less tasty like water.

I stopped drinking soda years ago. Only time I ever drink it is at fast food places (which is only Subway lately) or if offered at someones home.

I gave up soda/pop/soft drinks/carbonated beverages at the beginning of January. It wasn't a New Year's resolution, more of a "let's see if I can do it" thing. My wife had already given it up 6 months previous, so I had the support there. This is after only drinking diet soda (preferably Dr Pepper) for 6-7 years after switching from regular.

I was cranky for the first few days, but nothing else too extreme. Since then, I've had two cups worth of soda, mostly to see how I would react to it. The first cup was about a month after and I got a kick off of it. The second was in April and I ended up pouring it out after a few sips.

I like having clean teeth and an odorless breath.

Disgusting how stupid most people are just dumping empty calories down their worthless gullets.

Your username seems appropriate.

I wish giving up soda had given me odorless breath. Mine is exactly the same as when I drank multiple cans a day.

I was given pretty free reign to drink soda as a kid. I liked the taste of sprite but since I was always playing soccer and playing in our yard I rarely drank it. It was just really sweet for my tastes.

freshman year of college I actually went a few months without a single soda. Nowadays I have one with lunch once or twice a week. I need to cut that out and start training again though.

We rarely had it around the house when I was a kid, but I'd drink it out. My favorite was canned soda from a steel can, I started drinking a lot of it at work, mostly for economic reasons. I could get large quantities of draught soda cheaper than than just about anything if I wanted something with flavor. Now for flavor I prefer unsweetened tea, and I drink a lot of water. I cut back on sugar after my daughter got diabetes, and I can't eat sugary stuff like I used to.

A lot as a kid. My mother didn't really set up very many healthy habits for me as a child (it's a wonder I'm not overweight). My friends in high school used to joke that the fridge at our house reminded them of a 7/11. Lots of fast food and junk food provided for meals. It wasn't for financial constraints, my mother just has terrible habits and projected them onto us.

It's strange-I'm one of three kids (the youngest). All three of us had some epiphany after high school about how freaking unhealthily we had been raised. All three of us, by now, have been self-correcting. Both my sisters went vegetarian, cook every meal, and exercise every day. They're skinny and happy. I'm coming around, though not with the vegetarian thing. That ain't gonna happen. I'm also on the thinnish side-as I said in my OP, this was never about my need to lose weight. I just want to feel better, and it's been working.

I haven't drank soda pop in about 2 months.
However I take down tons of coffee now, so it's probably equally evil.

you probably drink alcohol which is way worse for you, stupid

That's something that you're implying without knowing jack fucking shit.

Way to be irrational, get angry that my post applied to you and you decided to be all butthurt and get all emotional about it.

Soda is VERY unhealthy for you. The brominated vegetable oil in Mt. Dew (most likely also present in the diet version), is actually a flame retardant, that is now used in foods, and is a neurotoxin.

To say nothing of the HFCS affecting your hormone balance, and the caffeine and whatnot.
