So I have a job. But yet, we are doing someone else's job because there isn't a tool available for them to do their own job yet to interact with the data. (Can you tell I'm a database guy?).

We are doing this lady a favor. There are two of them. One is very appreciative (she's very nice), the other is just a cold hearted bitch.

First, I got data every few hours... then it increased to every hour... then I said something, and we agreed on 3 PM every day for data. Now, its back to every hour (somehow has magically wandered back to the old practices), and if its done in 10 minutes (again, remember, not my job originally), SHE yells at me.

"Matthew, this is taking too long."

"Matthew, here are some more files. Please do this immediately. Not like yesterday."

"Matthew, these <things I'm supposed to insert> are disappearing left and right. Time is critical!"

I've had a talk with her, and she still insists on being a total moron. We never get a thank you, or anything of the sort.

I'M writing her a tool this weekend even though its not my job.

WTF?

Just do it at your own pace. If it's not part of your job, you will get it done after your own responsbilities are done.

People eventually get the hint that they either need to be patient or look elsewhere to get something done.

Did you tell your boss she is being a pain?

Time to write a script to do the data automatically.

Talk to your supervisor about it... thats ridiculous behavior on her part and from a mgmt perspective that woman's IT needs to be reassessed and supported.

sounds like you don't rank too high there or are a total patsy.

Letting it get this far does sort of make her right in her thoughts of you. Most people that let other's walk on them aren't highly spoke of even by 'friends'.

I would simply ask what the problem was and see how we can make it work. She doesn't have to thank you, nor should you expect it. However; you should have a consistant metric to work with.

You're an idiot. Read the OP.

The database group is doing them a favor. Even my boss agrees. We've talked to them before about it. The development team doesn't have time right now to develop a tool, so we're doing them a FAVOR, and yes they should have appreciation.

Database administrators (hmmm, lets compare salaries if you want to be a total prick about it) shouldn't be manipulating data.

Its people like you I don't like dealing with.

Oh, and constant metrics WERE established. I even developed a guide that said "Here, do it this way and I'll help you." One per line, ASCII. Took me foerver to get them away from Excel.

BINGO....

If she is being that much of a tool, you can just tell your boss and have this person direct her requests to help desk.

Save all of her apparent flagrant emails just in case she decides this isn't acceptable and show them discreetly to your boss if the need comes around.

but you're the one b1tching and moaning about it. Doing someone a favor is one thing, having someone to actually piss you off enough that you'd make a thread about it, is something else. I have no doubt you're a nice guy, but come on, if she expects you and your group to do her favors, you needs to set up ground rules and stick to them.

I think it's beyond a pushover.

Why not just respond to her rantings calling her out on her unprofessional behavior and copy her boss and your boss?
