I did have to make a choice once and went for Audigy. I still play a lot of music and gaming and did on several occasions tried to compare sound playback differences with a mate's M audio system. we both used gigaworks and I honestly can't tell the difference. It is only after reading this thread that I realised audigy actually resamples them. Hmmm, I guess the system coupled with good speakers does pull them close to each other?

If you want 100% quality M-Audio is the way to go.

If you want features like EAX and Digital suport get the Audigy.

THis is like comparing the Logitech z-5500 to the Klipsch 5.1 Ultra

Klipsch rips Logitech apart in terms of quality but Logitech has decoders, fancy control pods, etc.

I have an old SBLive!, which produces an annoying hiss when nothing is being played. I usually don't notice it that much except when I use my Etymotic phones. Does anyone here know if the M-Audio has less hiss or if Creative improved this in the Audigy?

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I've had nothing but trouble with the CP on my Revolution 7.1 disappearing from the systray since the day I installed it. I've updated to the newest drivers, even spent :30 on the phone with support to find out they hjad never heard of this problem and that I can just uninstall and reinstall to get it back. wtf, eh?

So, a word of caution. It's not a huge deal, but I tend to leave my computer on for weeks and weeks to avoid a un/reinstall process.

I use the CP for 'enabling monitoring' of the line in sound from my source.

I've had the same question myself, and the answer seems to be yes and no.

Here's my take on this:
If you're a true audiophile and have very nice speakers -OR- you plan to use this for professional recording work, get the ZS.
If you answered no to either one, then just get the Value as the difference apparently won't be noticeable.

this may sound stupid, but do you have a mic connected to your system? if so, you might want to mute it in your sound control panel while your not using it otherwise it will pick up background sounds and ityou might experience something like a hiss. I had the same problem and it took me a couple of hours before I noticed the mic was the culprit hehehe.
