i have to agree with that -- i work at Gap (Outlet) and we get transfers from high street all the time. we sell stuff for like 10% of their retail price all the time; like this trench coat that cost something ridiculous like 100 quid in the high street store we are selling about a month later for 6.99.

No, you do NOT get what you pay for in many cases.

And with you fashion plate metro types, the clothes go out of style LONG before you wear them out anyhow. So the argument that those overpriced, mall store trendy clothes are made to last is rather silly, isn't it?

Yeah, but if you aren't blowing money on 'overpriced...trendy clothes'...what ARE you blowing it on?

I'd rather have a nice outfit from Gap and look REALLY GOOD than TJ Maxx cast-offs. (FWIW, my wife does shop at TJ Maxx...their womens clothing is fairly nice, overall. But, then, women have the advantage of having substantially more flexibility with their clothes.)

I don't know....maybe an IRA, 401K, mutual funds....maybe a HDTV, DVD's, rental properties, or maybe even a vacation....

Yes, yes you do get what you pay for. I can promise you any random article from my wardrobe is of superior quality to a similar item from yours. In fact, I'm willing to bet you couldn't identify what makes a specific piece of clothing superior.

And please don't confuse a sense of fashion with following a trend. 99% of the clothing I buy is contemporary classic. Colours, patterns, lines, fabrics, cut all change, regardless of where you buy clothes or how much you spend.

If I can see your point, does that make me gay too?

It's not the clothes that make the man, it's what is underneath. No amount of money you spend on clothing is going to overcome a fat ass, a pasty white skinny geek, or a flabby gut.

Want to look good? Stop wasting you time and money at mall stores and following the crowd, and hit a gym.

You look the same regardless of what "nice outfit" you have on. You might just be an ugly dude wearing an outfit from FAP.

Just as I said before, what you wear does not define you. For all the time and money you wasted on those clothes, you could have actually done something constructive with yourself.

And you're right, I probably couldn't name all those finner points of clothing. But then, I'm not a skinny, greasy, pasty nerd trying to be a metrosexual who needs high dollar clothes to make me look good.

I was 11 in '88, moron. I hadn't even really started dating yet. However, I currently have no problems in that department at all.....I kinda have a family actually and a nice house in a great school district. I don't think my clothes got me that far though.

You've got no argument, so you result with personal attacks. Very mature.

For a start, I'm fit and certainly not skinny or pasty. I don't need the "high dollar" clothes to make me look good - I buy them because I can afford it and I'm in a position to enjoy the finer things in life.

FYI, you have no idea what I do with my time or money, so be careful about making wild assumptions.

Word. Saved me the effort of typing out the same thing. Somebody who's blowing $1500/year on clothes is doing it to look better, but they probably don't spend much time actually looking better; they're using that money to disguise an awful body. I buy cheap, crappy clothes infrequently and I know I get more looks from ladies than the average puffy guy my age who may be walking around with $400 in clothes on.

That's what makes me dashing in a suit, or out of it

Joe Hallenbeck: What's something like that run?
Jimmy Dix: Six-fifty.
Joe Hallenbeck: Six hundred and fifty dollars?
Jimmy Dix: Yeah.
Joe Hallenbeck: They're pants.
Jimmy Dix: Yeah.

Jimmy Dix: YES.
