back when was i was 15-18 i used to be the biggest a&f fan ever -- literally almost everything (90%) i wore was from there.

now every time i visit my mum and we go shopping there it's worse than before. the sales staff are the worst i have ever seen (i'd rather talk to customer service reps from india for five hours), the quality of clothing is steadily deteriorating (i bought a pair of $70 jeans from there and within 18 months they had rips and tears, i happen to like the style and so have replaced the pair three times in two years, which is ridiculous) and it's really expensive for what you get ($50 jeans now cos $70, but have nowhere near improved in quality).

they used to be really good and their stuff was kinda expensive but worth it -- now every little 15yo wannabe-prep loser wears it and they have gotten complacent.

Such is the case w/ 99% of all clothing nowadays. That is why I never splurge on them.

I'm sorry, Amused, but you almost always get what you pay for when it comes to clothing. Yes, stuff from A&F isn't any better than the stuff you buy at TJmaxx, but to expect all name-brand clothing to be of the same quality is ridiculous.

I can get the same stuff at TJmaxx for a fraction of the price.

Clothes wear out too damn fast to pay that kind of money for them.

But then, I'm not a fashion plate metro.

Agreed. TJMaxx and Kohls rox0r my box0rs.

No, you do NOT get what you pay for in many cases.

NEVER, unless you buy on clearance, do you get what you pay for at a mall store. And I mean NEVER. The markup at name brand mall stores is ludicrous.

And with you fashion plate metro types, the clothes go out of style LONG before you wear them out anyhow. So the argument that those overpriced, mall store trendy clothes are made to last is rather silly, isn't it?

I only read the last post in this thread, by Amused, by my impression is that I echo all his sentiments.

Stop wasting money on this sh*t, you freaks.

If a buddy came up to me and told me that he just spent $80 bucks on a shirt I feel it is my duty to back hand him and ask him what the hell are you smoking! Labels mean absolutely nothing to me. If the price is right and it fits that all that matters.

Labels mean nothing to me either, however, I fail to find stuff that I like at department stores. I used to like shopping at macy's, however, I feel like all they have now is some weird crap that I wouldn't wear.

Oh yeah. 37 years old, own my own successful business... oh yeah, I'm clueless.

I have a clue, folks. And that clue is this: Namebrand Mall stores are a huge ripoff.

And once you pass your mid to late 20s, you'll realize that those trendy, overpriced clothes mean exactly squat.

Don't they just have like beautiful people working at that store!
All the ladies working there are like hot and they always put like two models in front of the store... showing off how good they look with their amazing bodies and stylish clothing..

well some stuff is good -- jcrew is expensive but all of the clothes i have from there are really good quality and have lasted.

i just find it difficult to spent $70 on a pair of jeans and have holes in them within a year, especially when the staff there are rude and unfriendly and get annoyed when you interrupt their penis game to ask for help.

100 percent true. You people who think that the clothes you wear define who you are, are dumber than a bag of hammers.

Chances are, the chicks are just looking at you saying "Check out the dork with the A/F shirt on thinking he's hot sh|t. What a dumbass."

Yes, yes you do get what you pay for. I can promise you any random article from my wardrobe is of superior quality to a similar item from yours. In fact, I'm willing to bet you couldn't identify what makes a specific piece of clothing superior.

And please don't confuse a sense of fashion with following a trend. 99% of the clothing I buy is contemporary classic. Colours, patterns, lines, fabrics, cut all change, regardless of where you buy clothes or how much you spend.

Yeah, but if you aren't blowing money on 'overpriced...trendy clothes'...what ARE you blowing it on?

I'd rather have a nice outfit from Gap and look REALLY GOOD than TJ Maxx cast-offs. (FWIW, my wife does shop at TJ Maxx...their womens clothing is fairly nice, overall. But, then, women have the advantage of having substantially more flexibility with their clothes.)
