I have two boys (3 and 5).

The oldest is good about only coloring on things that should be colored on (paper).

The three year old has drawn on the walls, furniture, clothes, and on the carpet. Luckily this has always been with washable markers.

Tonight I am getting ready to go to work, when I see him haul @ss over to the living room with a paper towel and he starts wiping all over the floor.

I walk over and it seems the wife gave him a black sharpie to color with and didn't watch him (even with his history of coloring on everything). She has previously done this with the washable markers as well.

All I see is a four foot straight black line on the carpet with some dots all around it.

I go off on her, and her response is "You are making a big deal out of nothing" and "this is helping right now".

What sucks is we have five months left on our lease (apartment). It looks like my security deposit is now gone.

How about taking the markers, crayons, sharpies, everything away for a while.. Tell your kid he can't write on sh!t for a while until he learns where to write.

I have told him that he can only color supervised, however the wife will give him the markers, and then get side tracked watching TV and stuff. He has never colored on anything except paper and his books when I am around....however when the wife is here.......different story.

OP, do you spank your children? If you're still using timeout, the complimentary "Welcome! You're a doormat" pamphlet should be arriving at your residence shortly, no SASE necessary.

Furthermore, there should never be a time that the child receives mixed messages from one parent vs. the other. For that you have every right to be pissed at your wife, especially since this isn't exactly sneaking a cookie in before dinner.

That's because he knows he can get away with things when you are gone and only "mommy" is here. She needs to step up to the plate and lay down the law quick or things can get out of hand. Seriously.

That's like my little cousins...my aunt believed in only timeouts and stuff mostly and they are so unruly at home. But when at my parents house they didn't dare misbehave.

I spank them when it a major issue (when they do something they know they are not allowed to do). They behave when they are around me. When my wife is here, she lets them get away with murder.

Fix it now. It's already a bit late. It isn't easy for a mom to spank her kids but it needs to be done and she needs to send a message that misbehavior won't be put up with any longer.

She spanks them sometimes, but she is not consistent with them. For kids to learn the expectations, rewards, and punishment have to be consistent.

Maybe in a few days when she drops her attitude, maybe she will realize that she needs to step up a little.

hes only 3. they go crazy in an instant. since its his first offense with you there just make sure he knows he cant do it, and next time its a spanking.

at least youre renting and wont really have to pay out of pocket. kids are rough. looking back, im glad we rented for the first few years instead of subjecting our house to that. even so, theyre still dirty. dirt hands, dirty feet, flopping all over the place. i would say make him help clean it up, but he will think thats fun. too bad they grow out of that.
