There is wide variation even within a particular country of origin. The most consistently highly-regarded rifles tend to be Russian-made Arsenal (Saiga), VEPR, etc.

A WASR is a Romanian AK pattern rifle made by Cugir in Romania. They are generally regarded as bottom tier (at least if assembled by Century Arms) but are generally sufficient for blasting targets at the range. Quality on average is not as good as a Saiga, VEPR, etc.

This is definitely accurate as far as my AK shopping went. Some are straight and look good, some are crap. Importer/country doesnt always mean anything.

I was originally planning on purchasing a Polish Tantal but after shopping around a bit i ended up with a Hungarian that has been nothing but fun! Feel free to PM me with AK questions

I dont know if it was stated clearly yet but WD-40 is NOT gun lube. In fact its not much good for lubricating anything. WD-40 is MOSTLY Stoddard dry cleaning solvent, with a teeny bit of lubricant thrown in. Its supposed to be used for breaking up stuck things, but for lubing afterwards you need proper oil or grease.
And grease is preferred over oil in guns cuz it wont dribble down and leak all over your magazine or hands.
Use proper gun grease like Gun Butter or Otis Dry Lube.

I keep a can of WD 40 on the sink in the garage. Before I wash my greasy hands I spray them down with the WD 40 and wipe with a rag.

I was in school at the time, not playing with guns. So I had to ask a year ago on my gun forum and the old guys made me feel pretty stupid. Actually my original question was about 3in1 oil which people said I also should not use. They said if I wanna go cheap, use heavy weight synthetic motor oil.

Don't use WD 40 in locks either, it attracts dirt.

And for those using 20db ear muffs and 25 db ear plugs, you aren't getting 45db protection. You are getting 25db.

In the US, would making a custom magazine out of scrap metal be legal without any special licenses?

US law: Yes.
Check your state laws. In some states that can be the legal way around not being able to buy hi-capacity magazines from the factory. In other states thats automatically a felony, regardless of whether you actually carry them around or use them.

Me and a bunch of friends want to play Russian Roulette...what's the best gun that'll give me the best chance of survival that's not a revolver?

Also, could you recommend a silencer that would also work on the wife?

Zombie Apocalypse gun related question.

What firearm has the quickest learning curve, along with the least amount of maintenance and the best accuracy at long distances?

Also in regards to silencers is there such a thing for long distance firearms and if so how does it affect the weapons accuracy?

What about hearing protection? I went shooting a couple times and used the standard muffs they offer at the indoor range. First two times were no problem but the third time the glasses kept the muffs from getting a good seal and after 100 rounds my ears were ringing, and I was pretty pissed.

I watch videos of people outdoors with just earplugs of some sort, but indoors I'm thinking you need both earplugs and earmuffs. Any recommendations? So far shooting is fun but it's not really worth my hearing.

I prefer foam plugs for this reason. You can plug and muff but it gets REALLY hard to hear anything spoken word.

You need to find better fitting gear is all.

WD40 works great in a pinch because it is cheap and you can use a lot of it without a problem. You can buy WD40 by the can for $4 vs solvent or gun lube at triple to quadruple times that and you wind up using the same amount of product.

Oil and grease are both different things - there are things that I would oil that I would not grease and there are things that I would grease that I would not oil. Your statement is overbroad.

3 in 1 is made by WD40, you could use it in a pinch but some stuff gums up moreso than others like WD40.

Kel Tec P3AT - you'd have a fighting chance with that.

See above.

The learning curve is indian related, not arrow related.

Define long distance. Silencers are made for rifle and pistols - and they can shift point of impact but contrary to what you see on counterstrike adding a silencer does not make the firearm less accurate.

I would agree, with the addition that for a very quiet weapon, you'll need to use subsonic ammunition, and THAT does carry a penalty for long range accuracy. Still, for practical ranges (in your zombie apocalypse) and .300 Whisper would be plenty accurate.

Though firing a normal cartridge (5.56 or 7.62) with a suppressor does make it nearly impossible to determine where the shot came from, you will know you're being shot at when the bullet streaks past you faster than the speed of sound.

EDIT: To be fair, you'll know someone is shooting at you with a suppressed subsonic weapon too, if they miss, because the sound of the bullet smacking into your surroundings is the loudest part of shooting many suppressed, subsonic weapons (.300 whisper, .45, subsonic 9mm)
