I didn't think North Koreans came to the U.S? How did they manage that?
I had a buddy freshman year who was North Korean. His family was loaded, I never really asked because he was always very private about it. I assumed they were probably politicians or big business people. He went to a ritzy private school in Canada and then went to Penn State. Not sure how it worked, again he was sensitive about talking about North Korea and such.
The kid was also a huge stoner and highly entertaining. He could also be a pretty big asswhole. Loved to throwing around the money he had, especially on gambling. Wore expensive stuff, drove a supped up something or another. Very much the "I am a Rich Foreigner" motif that so many foreigners have when they actually come from a fairly well off family
I knew quite a few kids like this and not because they were friends. I tend to see the rich foreign kids like to invade groups by themselves so they can try to be the center of attention. I also knew an Armenian kid, a Pakistani, a Frenchy, and two Russian kids who all basically acted the same exact way. Insistence on expensive flashy clothes that they talk about all the time, buying ridiculously, and I mean ridiculously, overpriced liquor, all being into pretty heavy drugs, working on business majors, and being frat boys. They also tended to never get into what their parents do and generally tried to make it seem that they were of noble or royal heritage or some bs like that.
I came from a pretty rural area and most of the non-american people in my area were all just as poor as the rest of us. It wasn't until college that I was exposed to them and why I found them so interesting and could categorize them all in the same group unlike other people who posted earlier who seemed to make it seem that everyone who was korean was like this. My friends who went to bigger richer high schools, were closer to cities, or went to private school seemed pretty accustomed to the "rich foreign" kids.
