I'm looking for a CD to MP3 ripper with an ID3 tagger builtin

Does anybody know of any programs that can rip CDs to MP3, while tagging the correct ID3 information? I'm looking for something that's free, preferrably, but I may pay for the program if it seems that the price is worth it.

Thanks in advance

Do I really need LAME? (P.S. doesn't the E in LAME stand for Encoder?)

Thanks in advance.

EAC is just a ripper. If you want to encode to MP3, you'll need LAME.

another vote for EAC, just put the lame.exe in your EAC folder. Also to get the correct tag info just use the menu option to download it from freedb. Decent guide here

Another vote for EAC and Lame. They're easy to use and they work. It's a wonderful combination.

CDex with Lame is a good choice. CDex is freer than EAC, for EAC is proprietary and CDex is opensource.

I've been using CDex for years, but it has not been updated since 2006. To update its LAME encoder download the latest LAME encoder, 3.98.2, and replace the lame_enc.dll file in the CDex program folder with the newer lame_enc.dll file.

If it hasn't been updated since 2006 I'm not surprised there are issues. Just use EAC.

The 1.70-beta4 was supposed to have been released within the last year. I guess they've got a long way to go. Too bad, because EAC doesn't support unicode. In fact, nothing seems to support unicode, which I need for Japanese tracks.

I believe MP3Tag supports Unicode, and it embeds album art & gives better tag info than the FreeDB servers that EAC and CDex use. It doesn't rip CD's, though.
