I'm moving. I ranted about Utah enough here, but this is the last straw.

Good grief Jhill, of COURSE the LDS culture has an effect on Utah laws. The state is majority LDS (disclaimer: I'm one of them). What do you expect?

Never mind the great economy, never mind the fantastic seasonal weather, never mind the high level of safety, I CAN'T GET COLD BEER. WAAAAAAHHH!!

Gee whiz, there are more important things in life than your frickin' beer.

If the religious right were smart they'd be behind Romney 100%. Mormons are ultra conservative and they won an entire state.

Oh, and of course Romney wouldn't be able to pass a law like this on the national level. But if only the president had the power to appoint someone who could uphold a similar state law... hmm... like some sort of judge or something... but who would have supreme power of that nature? Oh well, can't think of it.

today its controlling state laws next thing you know they will be teaching intelligent design and making prayer mandatory. you give em an inch and they will walk all over. and lets be honest, I'd don't drink and I don't care what happens with the beer. What i do care about is my tax dollar be wasted on shit like this when education is the biggest joke to come out of this state since Kinderhook plates. The state law makers should be directing their time and my money to something a little more important

No energy drinks either. Mormons don't drink caffeine either.

This is a retarded law. And all you folks who bring up DD....lets be honest. Most drunk drivers don't drive down to the local grocery store, buy 6-pack, chug it there or in the car while they are driving home. They've either gone to a bar, a party..or some such other event.

But still...this is ridiculous. A state-wide ban on cold beer...and you people call the OP crazy for complaining about it? The fucking Utah state legislature should be ridiculed for wasting time with such a dumb ass idea.

I don't know. Probably. But I wouldn't know until it is posted in OT.

Ok, I'll give em the economy and high safety if they want to claim it, but I'm trying to figure out how LDS culture has any effect on the weather...

One thing I will concede about LDS Culture -- and NOT the official doctrine of the LDS church -- is that some of us DO try to dictate what other people can and cannot do through unsavory means, such as enacting laws Jhill mentions.

If there's one thing that a LOT of LDS don't seem to remember, is that LDS Doctrine teaches that free will is one of God's greatest gifts to mankind and that Satan's plan is to force everyone to behave in a certain way.

There's such a fine line between the two that it gets cloudy sometimes in my mind. I personally have no problem removing cold beer from grocery stores -- not because I believe drinking beer is a sin, but rather I feel there's no reason a person needs to purchase cold beer at a grocery store. Sin or not, beer drinkers can wait 'til they get home from the grocery store to get plastered.

Now whether me being LDS is influencing my justification, I don't know. However, from what I think is an outside perspective, the ban makes sense.

Why is it that some of the hottest girls I met are mormons? Is this God's way of teasing us and cockblocking the advances of men?

I just wanted to chime in here with a big "I'm proud to live in Nevada, screw all y'all"

Ron Paul made second place and the state slogan is "We won't tell your wife what we saw here tonight."

Here's some other weird stuff about Utah liquor laws. Talk about being stuck in the prohibition era:

-You can only buy 4.0% (ABV) beer at supermarkets and convenience stores (which is still better than 3.2% beer.) Stronger beer can be purchased at the 37 full-service Utah State Liquor Stores and 97 "package agencies" throughout the state.

-The maximum amount of hard liquor in any drink served at a bar/restaurant is 2.75 ounces. Drinks are still metered for 1 ounce pours, so you have to order "side cars" or doubles to get the 2.75 ounces.

- Utah still only allows bars (defined as places where you drink but don't necessarily eat) as "private clubs," and requires a "temporary memberships" for entry, the cost of these memberships has been lowered (from $5 to $4) and they are now good for three weeks instead of two. Each member is now able to "sponsor" (bring in with no cover charge) seven guests instead of the five that were allowed prior to May 2003.

FUCK UTAH

NO cold beer at grocery stores or gas station period.

But one beer drinker we talked to brought up the following point, saying, "A lot of beer isn't filtered. It has live organisms in it which will actually spoil if it?s warm for too long."

Do you think these idiots care about that? They want to push their ways on everyone else.

That's right you can't buy cold beer in Utah except at a bar where you have to pay a membership fee.

Where is that guy that I argued with awhile back that said mormons don't have any effect on laws/government in Utah.

ive lived without cold beer from grocery stores & gas stations all my life (pennsylvania)
