The roads here do blow. I've lived here all my life and I've never seen a hispanic produce stand, though. I live in Altoona, BTW. Don't move here, there isn't anything to do, except minor league baseball.

wow! thanx for all the replies. i didn't think i'd get so many insightful comments both funny and serious.

well, for the most part, i don't have control in moving there. it's job-related. and technically speaking, i'm moving to mechanicsburg, but everyone that i've talked to has told me it's like a part of harrisburg area.

what's funny is that my previous supervisor was from PA and he told me there's nothing up there. but i'm actually looking forward to the climate (cold season at least), rich history, and scenic views.

thanx again for all the tips. i know i'll be looking for snow tires when i get up there cuz all i have now is summer profiles. and what's this occupational priviledge tax??

I live in Lititz......north of Lancaster. Most people know of it because of the double-murder that happened with that kid named Ludwig.

The roads are pretty lousy in spots, but they have been slowly getting better. The roads were built after the cities, not vice versa like out west.

There are lots of good places to eat, you just need to find them. The best food is usually at mom & pop resturants or small bars.

Ed Rendell sucks, I sure hope that snake doesn't win again. We were much better off with Tom Ridge, but I'll be voting for Swan.

This area is pretty much 2-3 hours from everything......Baltimore, Philthy, State College, etc. I really like Northern Lancaster County though.......born in raised here, bought my own place here where I'll raise a family.

A tax you pay annually for the privelage of working in PA... It s like 10-15 dollars, unless you work directly in the city of hbg or pgh. Thens its like $80.

Yueng Lueng is good for a mass produced beer, but in your area is Stoudts Brewery. It is some of the best microbrew I have ever had

mechanicsburg isn't too bad. its pretty much right across the river from harrisburg. there's lots of stores there. 2 malls, at least 1 movie theater. lots of restaurants too.
i used to drive to mechanicsburg every day for work. traffic can be a pain sometimes.

harrisburg adds at least 2 movie theaters, another 2 malls, many more stores and restaurants. lots of clubs in downtown Hbg.

what company do you work for?

I work in State College and it costs me $56 a year - or maybe $52, it's $50-something. I also have to pay ~$100 a month for local income taxes, f that!

Anyhow, OP, if you live in Harrisburg you probably won't need snow tires. I live a bit northwest of Harrisburg and I got along just fine with my all season tires. I think if you get north of I-80 then you get the lake effect during winter in which case you would want snow tires.

Yep. Here in Pittsburgh it's $52 and is taken out of the first paycheck of the year. However, the good news is you can apply for a refund of most of it (up to $42) depending on your income.

I want to move to Philly  Only been there once.

If you've never been out East, you might find that the narrow one-way streets take some getting used to.
