Uhhh... I'm on my iMac right now, and WTF are you talking about?

Every and I mean every mac I use the mouse movments are slow and choppy. Every! Show me a mac that is not ill give you a cookie.

I will back you up on that. Bugs the sh!t outta me because im very particular about mouse movement.

@OP, dont expect ANY nonMAC apps to run well either. Maybe there are some, but i havent seen them (and i use alot of nonMAC apps at work).
Why would anyone expect "nonMAC" apps to run on Mac OS X?

Let me clarify--nonAPPLE. Jeez, no need to be an ass...

Matlab, Adobe, MS, etc, for mac os. Get it?

Well, now we know who on this forum hasn't actually used a Mac. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Adobe apps run great on OS X. And Microsoft Office for OS X is superior to its Windows counterpart.

bullshi!t. i'm both a PC and mac user and i've never had any problems with choppy mouse movements ever since i started using the apple 2 computers up to the mac mini.

if you still have these experiences, its called user error. there's nothing wrong with the mac.

My iBook's mouse is just fine. Oh, and Photoshop + AltiVec = Pwn. Not just any pwn, like one you would find every day on any game server, but a special kind of pwn, a veritable 100 carat diamond you could say. In fact, the word pwn just doesn't do it justice. We're talking about OMG 31337 HAXXX PWN3D!!111111111111 with another ten '1's after it kind of pwn.

The new core duo imacs had very responsive interfaces. Much more than i recall using even some desktop G5s. Seems like the new architecture really beefed up the feedback and how snappy the OS seems.

I am forced into using a mac EVERY day (my lab is mac only). I run the same apps on XP pro at home. On osx Matlab runs like sht, so does word. Im willing to retract my Adobe comment since they seem to run ok on mac and i havent had any file compatability issues. Nonethelesss, matlab, office, and ff all run like sht on osx (bugs, bugs, crash, bugs, crash). To reiterate, i use a mac with these applications EVERY day.

Sorry, but I highly disagree with your "unfortunate" OS X experiences. I am both an avid PC and Mac user and I agree that each have their own pros and cons, but those are not some of the cons I've found from using a Mac.

How much do you use matlab, ms office, or FF on a mac? I use them all day every day--bug, bug, crash, bug...

OSX is new, and maybe in 10 years we will see stable software. Would you defend win3.1 with the same vigor?

OS X is six years old, and currently in its fifth incarnation, with a sixth coming out later this year. It is hardly new. It has had plenty of time to mature, and those of us who have been using it since 10.0 have seen it go from being a good OS to a great one.

I'm sorry MatLab doesn't work well for you. I never use it. Office, on the other hand, I use pretty much constantly. And it works fine.

Ha ha! Bush: great president or greatest? For a "mature" OS it is one hell of a buggy POS.

Why dont you go do that yourself. I've never had that problem. I have a G4 Powerbook with me right now and there is no choppy mouse movement.

IMO, Expose alone is a reason to get a Mac Pressing the middle-mouse button and select the app you want pwns a Taskbar by far.

Why would you want to install bloatware? I already turn off most of the animations to increase responsiveness in Windows.

With the power of current cpus, ram, and video cards... my guess would be that his computer can handle the extra graphics.

Most of the software I use is pretty stable, including Microsoft Word. Word is slow as hell, but that's a known issue. Firefox is ass all around, so no reason to use it. The XUL(?) interface just reeks. Use Camino. It's the same rendering engine (gecko) with a native ui instead of that crapfest FF uses.

For a "mature" OS it is one hell of a buggy POS.

I think it's the applications you're using, not entirely the OS. Camino has hung a couple of times, but I can't think of anything else recently. Much better than 10.[01].

Must be... My PowerBook G4 is fine. Its mouse works perfectly. Microsoft Office 2004 runs great (not at the speed that Office 2003 runs on my X2, but that the old 1.5GHz G4 can't keep up with a new Athlon is expected and normal). I've used MATLAB a few times on the PowerBook and not had any major problems. I've used it much more on the low-end Dells in the computer labs at the university, and had the same minor issues and sluggishness that I saw on my PB. Common denominator?

Sorry for going off topic, OP. Anyway, congrats on your new laptop...
