I will back you up on that. Bugs the sh!t outta me because im very particular about mouse movement.

The reason it's slow by default is because it's the way Mac users think. Allows more time to appreciate the glory of the OSX interface vs actually working.

they are considered very good laptops yes. you get all the iLife suite ( i believe) including mac os x obviously. if you have XP, you can also run that with bootcamp on it.

I just got a new MacBook Pro:

2.0Ghz Core Duo
1.5GB RAM
80GB 5400RPM HDD
ATI X1600 Graphics card

OSX mouse movement feels *much* less responsive than Bootcamp XP. Maybe its some type of mouse "smoothing". If it is, i really hope there is a way to turn it off!

What is also bugging me is how when you click on something in OSX, instead of showing a hourglassed cursor, it just sits there...and then to make it worse, there is no HDD activity indicator light.. I am always wondering if i mis-clicked or didn't double click fast enough...

For reasons beyond my comprehension Apple hasn't solved this issue, there's no documented way to get rid of the mouse acceleration feature but Apple knows for years that many don't like it. Especially gamers and users of more than one OS are troubled by the OS X mouse acceleration.

There are some programs that try to neutralise the acceleration but I don't know how good they are at it. Also, they may not work for the trackpad.

USBOverdrive, MouseFix, SteerMouse.

You can add a HDD activity symbol to your menu bar with TinkerTool. And you can change the double click interval in the System Preferences but you may already know that

For some reason I have found the trackpad on my Macbook to be great since I got it. Admittedly I don't use it for gaming.

And as for hard disk activity, i've found it to be responsive enough for it not to be of concern.

MACs > PCs but i am pc user. Macs run windows much better, and i am sure they can game bettter. Also, many graphics designers use macs, because its just better.

I must admit although I've installed windows on my Macbook, I much prefer using windows on a machine actually designed to run windows in the first place.

Thanks for the help chcarnage! I'll definitely look into these. As a side note, I've noticed the same mouse feel on Xwindows GUI's...

It's funny seeing so many people talk crap about Macs, when most of them can't:
Get the name right(MAC is an acronym most commonly referring to a Media Access Control)
Operate the properly, while at the same time claiming only stupid people use them because that's what they're made for
Form coherent sentences

Also, why would theming XP to look like OS X make it "The best of both worlds" ?
It's still the same OS, just different looking, and in a few not so important ways acting somewhat differently.
Some people tend to use xyz OS because of it's functionality, rather than its looks.

I just got my MacBook Pro. It is the most elegant beast that I've ever owned.

anyone else notice that Macs got more popular after the Ipod release?

People enjoy their Ipods so they decide to buy Mac's

I cant say I am a big fan of macs and OSX in general, and I am probably not alone, seeing how macs always get deserted at our computer clusters. To be fair, that is largely due to familiarity with the interface IMO.
Loading programs through the scroll button does sound like a convincingly distinct feature. Can you list some other benefits only macs can provide? I am open to new ideas, just trying to learn

once you have a main (or most commonly a gaming) rig, I guess you could get by with less programs in secondary/mobile comuting. Thus is my question, what specifically makes intel-based portable macs better than the rest? Are they priced more competitively these days? TIA.

Been using a PC since 1985. Seriously considering going to a mac. Only game I really play is WOW, and it runs fine on a mac. And seeing how MS Vista is not very impressive....curious how many will ditch MS when Vista is released, and go to the other side. Watch, a lot of people will leave MS in the dust when Vista is released.

Your posts has more assumptions vs facts.

Since when do graphic designers know "ANYTHING" about computers? They can design/draw, but they cant exactly troubleshoot your computer. I attend an art school and most of them dont know very much about computers.

Being at this art school has given me a decent amount of experience with MACS, and IMO I dont see how either one is better than the other. IMO its mostly an exageration by both parties.

Working on the MAC, alot of the things are backwards compared to PC. I'm not sure if this intention was to make it intuitive or just to be different.
