the replacement blades have always been pricey. but now the going price for a box of 8 blades is over 20 bucks!!

Example: http://www.drugstore.com/qxp87.../refill_cartridges.htm

so i picked up a 10 pack of Gillette sensor disposables (3 blades) for 10 bucks at walmart. not only do they give a very nice shave, last just as long but are a far far cheaper.

so screw you Gillette and your over prices replacement blades.

I saw a commercial for a blade-sharpener thingy that can sharpen these blades for you, extending the life of your diposable razor by a good amount of time. Not sure how well it works, but it looked cool.

Yeah, this is why I use an electric beard trimmer (down to shadow) for 1 week, then shave with the Gillette 1x per fortnight.

It is. The sharpener removes all of the coatings on the blade leaving the bare steel which will either rust or just breakdown faster. All of the important thin-film metallic coatings are lost.

Have you thought about switching to a dual edge razor? The Wilkinson Sword blades I use are ~$0.40 a piece.

i dont even bother with shaving. i trim it down with clippers and leave it be.

those razor sharpeners on tv are a sham, you need to be able to get to both sides of the edge to hone it properly, that only gets one side honed.

DE. Once you go....DE....You never go.....well.....You know what I mean.

Might I suggest a nice inexpensive Merkur?

Also, if your at Wal Mart look for a shave oil called Shave Secret. It comes in a small eye dropper type of bottle so its easy to miss it. Frankly I dont like to use it to shave but I keep going back to it because it gives a goood shave! Its just a bit....gummy? Sticky? I dunno. Its some weird stuff but danmend if it doesnt work. Its still not the same as a good soap but when your in a bit of a hurry and dont want to go all out it works.

I only started using a razor (Mach3) a few months ago, and have been shaving with it for once a week. If I do with and against the grain on Sunday, I don't have to shave until Thursday. My "beard" barely grows, and I already look like a little kid, so I may as well stick to my electric shaver; it leaves a nice shadow. I still have 2 replacement blades, so that should last me a while. And at my rate, that's like 1 pack a year, so worth it for me.

Maybe, but it looks like something that could work. I'm sure build quality blows and you won't see the result the infomercials claim, but it might actually do something.

I've been trying to decide what to buy next -- I have a Norelco electric shaver that needs new blades, and a Mach 3 (not power) that also needs new blades. Maybe I will check out the Sensor disposables.

It most certainly does do something. What it does isn't good though.

Let me take a moment to say "So what?"

If it takes a blade from something I would throw away to once I can get even one or two more shaves out of.......I still wouldnt buy one though

Should be able to find them in pretty much any grocery or drug store.

I use the Sensor 3 disposable on occasion, it isn't too bad, it pulls a bit more than the mach 3 turbo. For occasional shavers, its a good blade. For thick bearded people, not-so-much as the blades are just not as strong as those in Mach 3 turbo. Don't bother with the original mach 3, its garbage (in my opinion).

I bought a sample pack from West Coast Shaving and was pretty happy with it. I'd recommend the OP do the same.

my brother in law started using a brush and mug to lather up. i used it while i was down in texas and i think im going to start doing it as well. thanks for the link.

Proraso is a well regarded cream. I've been told Bed Bath and Beyond actually sells Proraso under a different name. I dont know what that is however unfortunately. If you stopped by though they might be able to help you find it.

Soaps and creams are like blades but with a lot more choices. You have to find what you like. Think of it as the opportunity to experiment and try new things.

I use an electric... got tired of being thrown over the coals for replacement blades. My electric was something like $45 at JC Penny. It's waterproof as well so I can use it in the shower and I don't waste money on shaving cream anymore.
