It may take you a little bit longer as you have to be more careful, but you definitely get a better shave on both your face and your wallet.

my brother in law started using a brush and mug to lather up. i used it while i was down in texas and i think im going to start doing it as well. thanks for the link.

Proraso is a well regarded cream. I've been told Bed Bath and Beyond actually sells Proraso under a different name. I dont know what that is however unfortunately. If you stopped by though they might be able to help you find it.

Soaps and creams are like blades but with a lot more choices. You have to find what you like. Think of it as the opportunity to experiment and try new things.

Cool thanks for the info.

It's rebranded as C. O. Bigelow. Kiss My Face is also a very easy to find brand of shave creams. It's pretty common in grocery and drug stores.

It most certainly does do something. What it does isn't good though.

Let me take a moment to say "So what?"

If it takes a blade from something I would throw away to once I can get even one or two more shaves out of.......I still wouldnt buy one though

Well, to each their own. The device destroys the tip of the blade since it removes all of the metal interlayers. I would not use that. It has been shown that those coatings are important for shaving performance. I cannot provide this information as it is confidential. All I can say is that Double blind A/B/X consumer tests with large sample size were conducted.

Ok, if it makes for a worse shave then I'd avoid it. Hell, take the money and spend it on a DE razor and get cheap blades

The best way to spend your money on these products is get what your face likes. Everyone's face adapts to different technologies in different ways. If Double-edge works for you, then you are like the 2 other billion people who use double-edge (china and india using it quite a bit) and you can stand to benefit from the volume sales!

So you are sticking it to Gillette by buying a different Gillette product?

I had been using the Mach3 for years, and decided that I would try one of the DE razors. Looked around and saw the Goodfella razor: http://www.goodfella.co.nz/collection.html - expensive, but I got it for $40 doing a group buy at shavingessentials.

All I can say is WOW. I have a thick beard that grows fast with a very sensitive face and I will never, ever go back to a mach3 or other fancy razor again. The control and closeness you get is just *amazing*, and the blades cost .20! I could use a new blade every time I shave and it'd still be TONS cheaper. I don't need to use shaving cream either - I just use Pacific Shaving Oil which works great.

Yes, you can use any DE blades on any DE razor.

I bought the sampler pack: http://westcoastshaving.com/in...&cPath=2&products_id=3 because I read the blades are different for everyone and you should try a couple different brands out.

Turns out I didn't need it because the blades that came with the razor (DERBY) are good for me (although I'm interested to see how the others feel).

Same as you I always forget when I go shopping As an FYI I have found if you shave in the shower as I do, taking your razor with you out of the shower and drying the blades in between shaves will double your blade life.

For a while Target was selling all of the Proraso products. That was really great while it lasted. Just be warned about hitting your face with that cold water if you go for the pre/post shave cream and the shaving cream.

http://www.classicshaving.com/...item/522940/286096.htm

That's not a real straight, it uses disposable shavette blades.

I have two Merkurs, the classic and progress, and I always go back and use one of them for a month or so but everytime I go back to my Gillette Fatboy I swear never to use the Merkur again. I wish I could get as good of a shave with the Merkurs, the chrome looks so pretty.

I've never seen a coupon for "buy some other product and get free razors" much less a coupon that says flat out "come in to our store, grab a pack of razors, and leave without paying a dime."

KT

i saw that too and believe it is a sham.

It is. The sharpener removes all of the coatings on the blade leaving the bare steel which will either rust or just breakdown faster. All of the important thin-film metallic coatings are lost.

Well there you go. Thanks guys.

KT

I was actually going to do a thread about that thing when I got around to doing some drawings about what is really happening when you use it. Being a die maker, sharpening things and becoming involved with what makes something cut well is something that almost had me spitting up my beer when I saw the commercial the first time.
