Why do some people feel the need to call you these things? I was in a bar last night, the bartender kept calling me son (he coudln't have been 30 himself, I'm 22)... this biker dude next to me kept calling me brother... and when I was walking home a police officer pulled up next to me and said "where you headed pal?" and offered to give me a ride. I can understand more if I was friends with these people, but I'm not, I've never seen any of them before in my life.

Well you have to play along. When someone calls you son, you call them dad. See how long they keep saying it.
When they call you buddy or pal, you respond the same way. They'll realize how irritating it is.
