WTF... They really want you to take it in to shop.

I really love my Honda and they mostly do a great job with the design-details BUT some stuff like this just makes me shake my head.

For example the backup lights are positioned in such a way in the tail-light assembly that they require removing the entire said assembly in order to just replace the lamp (!!) turning what should be a 5 minute easy job into another PITA.

I take off two bolts and the whole tail light assembly comes off, then each bulb can be replaced since they are on a twist and pull socket. 2012 Odyssey.

Exactly what kind of small town do you live in that doesn't have reputable auto shops?
Its called America, and it's one big scam from coast to coast.
I really Should have learned cars. Instead I learned computers.

I don't know much about cars, but I can do simple pull and replace of small things. Door panel is pretty easy to open. Given it's America, it should have lots of good mehanics.

Well it does. They are good in the sense they know how to make lots of money off customers. Then they piss and moan about how the economy sucks.

Should have bought...Toyota...

Also, what I lament is that people don't treat certain white collar, white "coats", and certain uniforms with the same mistrust they do for a mechanic.

If you dont hear from me by Valentines it means I died along the way. Tell them to look for a fat midget hanging out of a Nissan Murano. Bronze.

Squirrel gets my porn collection.
You're gonna kill the poor misguided kid, he's not ready for that level of depravity!
Well it's not the day the warranty ran out. It's 13 years old and is very close to hitting the 100,000 mile mark.
And things like body repair including the fucken door handle my local mechanic can't do. I needed the dealership for that, unfortunately.
I am gonna take it home and have my man deal with the other shit.
Is the body work really necessary? Shit is expensive, and if it's just cosmetic, well, roll around in an ugly 13 year old Murano.
You'd be shocked at all the things I fuck up without loads of training. The reason I can't fix my own car is on just about any piece of machinery I always break it and need to start over again at least twice. Learning how to build and repair computers was very expensive for me. Most employers hate me for the first few months.

I cannot afford to break my car. I need it to get around. And if the door is flopping loose In the wind I am positive the cops will nail me
Sounds kinda like my partner's dad, anything he tries to fix ends up broken worse.

Get a bungee cord and keep the door shut that way

Well, they're doing the 4 wheel alignment because they're replacing the steering rack. Replacing a steering rack is generally expensive. Do you know why they want to do it? Is it just leaking?
Same kind of question with the front pipe and cat, getting the cat replaced is expensive if it's with an OEM unit.

If you spend more than $2k on repairs to that car, that is money that is like lighting it on fire. I certainly understand spending money on routine maintenance to keep a vehicle on the road, but at 13 years it owes you nothing, and to spend more on repairs than what the vehicle is worth is insane.

You would be better off taking the $9700 in quoted repairs and putting that towards a newer/better vehicle, and see what you can get for a trade in/sale of the Murano. Even with the insane prices in used/new vehicles now you would be better off than sinking that much into a 13 year old vehicle with 100k miles.

Fun fact, it landed right on 100,000 when I pulled into the dealership.

I went to my local mechanic, asked him for an estimate, he said the dealership looked high but he needs to see the car on tuesday himself so he can do a proper estimate.

Generally speaking, the first decision to renew the marriage or discard a car does come around the 100k-140k mark as the suspension has been worn out to the point of breaking. I don't see struts, ball joints, etc in the estimate. I mean, an alignment is kind of wasted if those things are wearing out(along with the control arm which is listed)

Headlight replacement looks expensive. I don't know if Nissans are time-consuming bitches like Ford or simple like Toyota in headlight bulb replacements.

Sounds like the dealership is trying to scam you with unnecessary repairs. Unless you have been abusing that car and not done any maintenance, no way steering rack can go bad in 100k.

Unless you did 100k of three point turns or never replaced steering fluids.

This is not 300 dollar of work.

Step 1: Get the fvck out of there.... might as well be an armed robbery!

Step 2: Either sell that POS immediately or just drive it till the wheels fall off with no major repairs done.

the state safety inspection will require most of that be fixed. and I'm already overdue thanks to the fucking property tax coming late and me not getting the registration on time. (No one will do the safety inspection unless the registration and insurance are current)

In that case its time to pull the ripcord. Seriously.

Even with todays inflated used car prices that repair will be more then your car is worth.

A "lifetime" 4-wheel alignment is like 1/6 of that price at a lot of "chain" repair places.... for example the Firestone near me will do it for $240 +/-.
