and printed "you're being watched" on their printer. are there any other neat things you can do remotely?

WEP/WPA, mac filter, etc. are all disabled. i'm surprised they changed the router's default password though. imagine all the things i can do if i had access to their router.

the funny thing is that i'm using my WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware that's placed next to a door. so if they were suspicious enough, they could look outside and see a tin foil wrapped router.

I found someone on my wireless the other day. I was having some problems with the 'net (or more accurately, my connection), so I checked my router. Lo and behold, someone was using it.

I had upgraded the firmware the previous day. It's reasonable to expect such an upgrade to reset your router, correct? What I found UNreasonable was that it enabled wireless access by default, access which was unsecured. That pissed me off.

this command only works if the computers are in the same workgroup, right?

i just used angry IP and did a network scan to find the remote computer's IP.

edit: nevermind. net view \\computername

I bet he did a scan of all alive ip addresses on the wireless, opened up each ip address in IE to see if one was a printer, identified what printer model it was, set it up on his PC, and printed out the page.

If you acquire an IP address from their DHCP server (which should be a service on their WI-FI router) then you will be part of their "LOCAL" area network. '192.168.*.*' etc.

Just run ipconfig on your comp and see if you picked up a local address.

download angry IP and do a complete scan of your network. eg. 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254.

the remote computer will need to have sharing files and printing enabled. to view their shared files/printers, go to run and put in '\\remoteIP'. double click on the printer to install.

i'm curious, i have a wireless router in my house and I sometimes wonder if its 'secure.' What deems it unsecure? I have a 15-key or so encryption on it, so you'll need the exact network key to get on it........... Is that secure enough?

Most routers go back to factory defaults when you upgrade. I think its pretty common sense that unsecured wireless is always on by default. Should've been mad at yourself for not checking.

Or right click on the printer and click connect.

For an experienced hacker? No. For a script kiddie? Probably .

yes, unsecured would be someone running a WI-Fi network without WEP enabled. So you're fine.

is it WEP or WPA. WPA is more secure. unless your neighbors are computer savvy, they probably won't bother to break into your wireless network.

if you know who it is, add a picture of his/her house ftw.
if you can get in with the router unprotected, i bet you the router pw is the default pw as well, look for the brand and model and google the default pw, then wreck havoc with the parental controls

Or just go ahead and change the settings on their router so that you have the wifi access and they don't
