So i've decided that i wanted to take a step back into the world of console gaming. I used play a lot of ps2 and older pc games and took a break during the ps3/xbox360 era. I know it takes a couple of years for new consoles to develop a good game collection and fix the bugs that appeared in earlier generation models. So this is the reason why i have decided to pick up a cheaper console with an extensive game collection, but i am torn between a ps3 or a xbox 360. I know this is a general question that's been answered millions of times on yahoo, but i'd like to hear it from you guys. So give me some advice and suggestions on either of these two ancient pieces of technology. The Blue-Ray advantage in the ps3 doesn't really do anything for me..I have a huge DVD collection and doubt i'll be starting Blu-ray one anytime soon.

first piece of advice - there is no E in bluray.

2nd piece of advice - which console has the most games you want to play on it? buy that one. also keep in mind, online gaming on 360 costs money with xbl which is about $40/yr.

While we're being pedantic, it's blu-ray. You forgot the hyphen.

i forgot nothing. i omitted it on purpose because sometimes when i type a - without looking i hit the 0 key instead, and i didn't feel like looking at my keyboard when typing the reply.

it was not forgotten. it was left out due to sheer laziness. ditto for the capital B.

Blu-ray Disc

Nice.

For some reason I didn't remember the branding capitalizing or having "Disc" in it.

mjaweeka circled back to being wrong, BD is not included in the branding but that is how you shorten it. It's a one or the other thing.

To answer the question, it just boils down to what exclusive games you want to play. Full stop. This is not a question that other people should have to answer for you.

You don't get to correct someone like that and still be wrong, though.

As was demonstrated to me as well.

As does mine.

That statement in no way makes what I said less true. You don't get to correct someone like that and still be wrong.

The devolution into a personal attack only helps my stance.

LOL.. back on topic. I am an xbox gamer and owned both last gen. Barely touched my ps3, but I'm going to recommend the ps3. You need live to play online or do anything online with the 360 and that's reason enought, tbh. Unless you have lots of friends on Live, and view gaming as more of a social experience for yourself, then I would recommend going with ps3.

Oh well, it's all in fun.

Anyway, OP, personally I played the 360 more during that cycle, as the multiplats I wanted to play often looked/performed better on there, plus some exlusives (timed or otherwise). Lately, though, I have found myself on the PS3 a lot more, and haven't fired up the 360 in ages. I guess that had to do with my friends being on Xbox Live.

At this point, I would go with a PS3 simply for the bluray player, better audio for games and movies (if using a receiver), and because it still plays PS1 games (add PS2 if you get an old phat one). Online is still free I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the games are pretty cheap overall, and hold their value better over 360 games.

What kind of games are you into?

Collect for the original xbox or the PS2. You'll find all the games are dirt cheap.

You all have it wrong. It is trademarked, you can't even think it. You are all reported to Sony for infringing on their trademark.

Well considering your title of the topic, I would pick the PS3. Though there is a gap in quality in online play between 360 & PS3, I think the gap in price for online play is what suits you the best.

You wouldn't have to pay the $40 or so a year for online. Plus, the PS3 isn't bad at all and it does have the DVD functions as well as the Blu-Ray functions in case you ever want to watch Blu-Ray movies

I was in this situation back in February myself. Since the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One dont have enough games yet, I went for last gen and chose the Playstation 3 Slim 250GB / The Last Of Us Bundle for $250.00.

Since then, I have spent $375 on my Playstation 3 collection, and it includes....

Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City
Batman Arkham Origins
Bayonetta
Castlevania Lords Of Shadow Collection with Mirror Of Fate HD
Devil May Cry HD Collection
Devil May Cry 4
DMC
God Of War HD Collection
God Of War III
Heavenly Sword
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Ninja Gaiden Sigma II
Ninja Gaiden Sigma III
Uncharted Drakes Fortune
Uncharted Among Thieves
Uncharted Drakes Deception
Assassins Creed
Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Assassins Creed Revalations
Assassins Creed II
Assassins Creed III

And I picked up a blue Nintendo Wii with these titles...and have $80 into it so far.

Metroid: Other M
Super Mario Galaxy
The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess

Monster Games in Virginia has good deals.

Yes, I am a smash, mash and slash player. Anyway, id go with the Playstation 3.

Of course, I did see the entire Gears Of War series for $14.99. Probably grab them soon too. But need the XBox 360 first.

I would go with Xbox 360. Most multiplatform games look and run better on 360 and you can't beat Halo and Forza.

"It's the games, stupid" - Bill Clinton

Go to Amazon, look at the games for each.

PS3 has piles of JRPGs, plus a few action titles (Uncharted, Infamous), GT

X360 has Crackdown 1 (RoboCop meets Spider-man), Halo, Forza.

PS3 has bleu-rhay disk playback, better DVD playback, free online play, Netflix and other streaming without extra charges.

X360 has bigger online communities for bro-shooters and sports, but you pay $40-50/year for Live Gold. You also need Live Gold to play Netflix, Amazon, etc. streaming. If you want anything besides single-player gaming you need Live Gold.

I own both, but use the PS3 more since I have a gaming PC for cross-platform titles.

Similar to MI above. Wanted the PS4 but could not find it in stock and not really any games i wanted to play on it yet. So in January i got the PS3 / The Last of Us bundle.
Also got Heavy Rain And Beyond Two Souls.
Love the action oriented story driven games like above. Also loved the Uncharted series. Probably be the end of the year until i look at getting a ps4. Naughty Dog is remastering The Last of Us and are working on an Uncharted game for it.

Already have a really good gaming PC and do not do multiplayer on console. I use the PC for mmorpg and mmofps mostly. Such as, Everquest and PlanetSide 2.
Some games are a pain on the console (long loading times, shorter draw distance) Skyrim and Far Cry 3 for example look much better and play better on a good PC.

so op, as others have said. Depends on what games you want to play and if the system has exclusives you want more.

and in closing. Can anyone recommend other ps3 games that are similar to what i said above? (Uncharted and The Last of Us)
