Why don't those that like MLP post a youtube link to what they think the best eps is. Then people can watch one before making a judgement.

I don't think there's enough here to have struck up anyone's interest sufficiently to watch the show with the proper entry attitude. MLP:FiM is in a genre that has 30 years of bad programming working against the idea that it might be good, and because its quality is hidden within the character interactions, it's not going to be evident to someone who is skimming it looking for an in-your-face "hook". So it's not entertainment you can force on somebody who's sitting in their ignorance with a sense of smug superiority and a "prove me wrong" attitude -- they have to come to it primed by something in their environment that has given them the idea that the show might actually have something going for it. They won't believe it's an oddity unless they see something relating to it that's sufficiently odd for them to make the connection.

If someone is sufficiently baffled and really wants to know what's up, just start right at the beginning. This is a character-based show and the season 1 pilot sets everything up.

Threads like this remind me why I stopped hanging out here so much. I can't pinpoint the moment, but this place became a judgemental echo chamber of hate a long time ago. Rock on, Daverino.

Why don't those that like MLP post a youtube link to what they think the best eps is. Then people can watch one before making a judgement. These comparisons to pedophiles is just ridiculous, since the show isn't about kids, it's about ponies.

Someone on another forum repeatedly insisted that Bridle Gossip was the best episode for beginners, and I think they've convinced me. It explores the fantasy/magic themes a little more than the average episode, doesn't really come off as girly at all, is generally more humor-centric than drama-centric, and it's about racism. :awe:

No; instead it says everything we need to know about those who fear the sweet-sweet release that no longer hiding behind masculinity would offer.

yeah, so I just don't get why this is the oft-repeated justification--the only justification--for so-called grown man to spend gobs of money, time, and effort on collecting and creating completely worthless pony art and schwag.

I think this is a very telling post.

At least it's clear where you get your fucked up sense of reasoning from now.

I think DixyCrat is one of the more lucid, clever, and insightful posters on here these days.

He's a confessed, reformed republican/christian--now into someone with more humor, critical thinking, and self-reflective criticism. That, I think, makes him a better member than 95% of us.

(Not saying that it's only good that he went from being repud/christian; simply that he managed to step outside of a core belief structure--whatever it was--see that it wasn't his thing, and move on)

I was being hyperbolic in my retort because it made me laugh to write it; which happens to be why I write and read here instead of play video games or watch more than a couple of hours of TV a week.

I just think we should be accepting of the various aspects of geek culture. You play video games? Watch the myriad geek children's shows (see ST:tOS)? Into sci-fi/fantasy novels (not world of gore)? Play table-top or RP games? Dress up like some obscure character form an anime? Have a computer more souped-up than a gear-head's car? Whatever you geek-out on: cool.

Except furies

They fucking creep me the fuck out.

This one guy I met wanted to go to the zoo to use an HD cam-corder to record a fox... Every time he spoke of the fox it was in a highly sexual manner and he said his dream in life was to own a pet fox.

No; furies an yiff right off.
I feel this way about most anime*; but I don't deride most** of the otaku. Why should I, what others enjoy doesn't hurt me or anyone else.

I think i'd defend someone being insulted for being a 'weeaboo'; aslong as they were clearly not just espousing a porn preference.

yet I don't defend my useless habits and time sinks by accusing others of being in conflict with their own masculinity.

No, you defend your useless habits and time sinks by accusing others of being in conflict with your masculinity.
If you had something better than a child's concept of masculinity, that might mean something. But you don't, so it doesn't.

You are a child playing an adult's game. Your efforts are clumsy and amateurish and, as you have no connection to reality, you have no leverage.
You present no challenge. That makes you boring.

Don't get why people give a fuck about how other people spend their time and money when it doesn't affect them.

it's not so much the pony thing as it is people like DS, who, in every category of issue he chooses to involve himself in, demands his ideology, his taste, is the only acceptable form. His defense, even without being attacked, is to insult and slander. He's the mind of a 12 year-old who thinks the world belongs to him. His tunneled view of politics and the law is the only correct one.

Over and over again, even when ponies aren't involved.

Honestly, I'd bet that if you polled AT, about 95% of those that grief the pony people would likely not give a shit about their little fetish were it not for DS and his generally distasteful persona.

Bronies are a joke. If all of you pylons concentrated your time on bettering the world instead of going on the internet to talk MLP the world might be a better place.

But alas, you're just laughed at by the Populous.

Choose between building a community and doing good?

Why not both?
