im selling a virtual item with Paypal

Last time I did this, the person claimed that it was an unauthorized transaction. Is there any personal information that he can email me that will prove that he is the owner of the account? (ie: a secret question answer or something along those lines)

The only way i do those is if the buyer has very good feedback at some reputable site like ebay/heatware.

You can usually tell by the age of the account, and the frequency and types of transactions.

If the account is 15 days old and has 45 heat all in similar formats... yeah.

nothing will make you 100% protected from being scammed selling virtual items and accepting payment through paypal.

your best bet would be a check or something and not giving the info till it clears.

There was a thread not too long ago (last week?) where someone sold their wow account for a few hundred, and they got scammed. The seller paid via paypal and he go a reverse payment right after he gave his log in info. I think he recovered it since then, but it's not safe.

I would recommend getting a USPS money order.

I'm about to sell my WoW account soon (I think can go for $1000 easily) so I'm gonna request only MO.

yeah, i would avoid using paypal for anything virtual. I started up wow after a hiatus to play TBC and yes, I did buy $20 in gold. Never got it and paypal wouldn't help me.

I do this on a daily basis and if it's really that important to you, send it on a disk or something with fedex with a tracking number to prove that you sent it to them. It doesn't prove the contents of it, but at least it shows that you sent something. If the person is smart enough to argue, this may or may not change anything.

Create a formal contract, have them sign it and mail/fax it back, and then if a dispute comes up, just show it to paypal saying that he signed an agreement to pay.

Be sure to specify USPS money order only while your at it ... a MO from just about anywhere elses is just as likely to be fake as a "certified" check.

I sold my WoW account for 750 right after Naxx came out. The guy that bought it paid instantly, then never once reactivated it. 8 months later, I took the account back and sold it again. Win. Good luck in your endevaours!

QFT...and why these types of sales are so hard to do.

If your a seller: Send a piece of paper with the login information, pay the extra money for delivery confirmation.
If your a buyer: Make sure they are TRUST WHO VERIFIED, this is a somewhat long process to make sure they are legit. If they don't have it don't do it. If the account is called back you are screwed, I always use a credit card for any "intangble items".

Speaking of that I just my money back last week when I got scammed, <3 CC company's.
