i'm shopping for a new video card.....need some help!

here's the jist of my system.....

celeron 566@920
maxtor 15 gig 7200 (ATA66)
128 megs of PC100 RAM@108
ABIT BF-6 MOBO
Promise ATA66 Adapter

I'mm sort of a so so gamer. I won't be playing heavy 3d gaming everyday. But once in a while, I'll bust a game day where i melt my brain for several hours. you know, counterstrike and such

I'm looking to spend about 200 bucks or less. Im zeroing in on the GeForce MX (may or may not overclock it) or the recently cut geforce256 DDR.

i prefer 32 bit at 1024x768. don't really give a rip about special features. But i do want DVD support cuz i pln to upgrade that a little later

is it really worth the money to bust for a gefore2 gts or a radeon? im really confused.....

please answer me!

Read some Radeon reviews - I think it may well be worth the extra cash for you. 2d quality is excellent, as is 3d quality. Is has plenty of features, more so than the Voodoo 5 or the GTS and what's more, the DVD quality is top-notch.

You may have noticed that the 16bit performance is not as good as the Geforce 2, but you've stated that you'd like hi-res 32bit gaming, and for that, the Radeon seems to excel.

I'm not sure, but you might be able to get a 32meg Radeon for 200 or perhaps a little over, although if you want something that'll last you longer, it could be worth spending the extra cash...

The Geforce 2 MX looks to be a fantastic card for the price, and I suppose if you're not really that serious of a gamer it could be a good card. I'm not sure about DVD on it though, I suppose you'd need to do a bit of research (Read the reviews). Good luck

Yeah, the Radeon should be great for DVD, and will probably satisfy you for 3D, even if you buy the less expensive SDR version (but you'll have to wait a little for that to appear).

The MX may also be good, especially if you buy a dualhead (or whatever nVIDIA is calling that feature) one, with TV out. DVD quality on the GeForce was not as good as on ATI and S3 cards, but MX is supposed to have improved image quality, and that might apply to DVD, too.

Don't go for the GeForce 256. The MX is faster, takes much less current (and produces much less heat), and has more features. I'd buy an MX if I didn't already have a GeForce

when are teh mx cards coming out? i couldn't find even one that has been released. i think the hercules mx II was the only i ever foudn that was actuall made?

when are these puppies supposed to be realesed?
