Anyway,
1948 Twin fork Springer Panhead. First year of the Panhead, and last year of the twin fork springers.
This is a model F, low compression fire/police bike. There were not many models with that came in this particular configuraion. It's one of a few and one of even fewer running.
It's geared for torque since it's supposed to haul a sidecar + rider. There's not a lick of aluminum on this puppy and no fiberglass. It's a heavy bitch for sure.
This one was a fire bike owned by the fire chief in Fort Benning (Columbus, GA).
My father purchased it from him for $2500 dollars and has owned for over 36 yrs.
It was painted OD green (it belonged to the army foremost). He repainted it to the color you see now, but has since been repainted to the original factory finish of black bars, frame and fire engine red tank, fenders and sidecar. It has the original siren, and glass fire lenses.
It's near 100% original. It even has the original fan cooled 2 brush generator (for those who may know how hard those are to find.)
He can't ride any longer due to declining health and has been recently given to me. I don't have much ride time on it (days). It takes some getting used to.
3-speed forward and reverse with stick shift on the tank. Left handle bar is spark advance/retard and right is throttle (like normal). Rear brake on right foot and roller clutch on left foot. Front/park brake is left hand.
Sorry for the image quality. When this pic was taken, we had forgotten the camera and had to use a phone camera instead.
