My 1st vid card specifically for gaming was my Diamond Monster 3D VooDoo1 card. I think it had 4MB of VRAM. I paired it with my Diamond Stealth S220 for Real Ultimate Power!

I was a MechWarrior junkie back then and the pics of the clouds and textures on the Mechs sold me.

A bit later, I had a bad ass Celeron 300A OC'ed to 450 with one of those Peltier Sandwich coolers and a pair of Guillemot 3D Gamer 12MB VooDoo2 cards in SLI. Man, did 3DFX kick ass back then...

LOL

I remember buying this card when it first came out. It was the fastest thing out there. Now it's abandoned.

How sad. It was once worth so much, not only in dollars, but I coveted the hell out of this thing when I bought it new.

Anyone else ever get sad over something like this?

Yah, I had to do this a while ago with a RIVA TNT card.

It was my first high end gaming card

Same here.
I was dominating on Unreal Tournament on that card.

sad, not really. I've adjusted to getting what is available for a good price. after my x800pro I've learned to never settle for computer parts. there is so much money out there that we need to learn how to earn it all. hence, I will open my computer case to pull out whatever I need to in minutes to put in something new. I'm not going to wait for the next best thing. if it's cheap for highend, that's what I'm going to get, and focus more of my time on enjoying what I have and studying. so adapting to change is necessary. remourse over old computer parts is like crying for the Pentium 4 3.0e chip that you got for 200 bucks back in 2004.
to hell with the geforce3 series, kids.

My leadtek geforce 2 GTS used to be a beast. I swapped it out for a Geforce 4 ti4200 and was behind the game for several years. Then I stepped it up one year and got a 5900 ultra. Then a 7800GT. Currently happy with my set up. Best moment in gaming was playing quake when i first got my creative 3d blaster back in the day.

I can proudly say that I've never paid more than $250 for a video card. I always went for the budget performance models, like the 8MB Voodoo2 (The 12MB was about 5% faster and $50 more. Yay.), and the GeForce Ti 4200 (I could over clock it to GeForce Ti 4600 levels, and it was half the price!).

My current card is an ATI AllInWonder Radeon 9800 Pro that I got on sale for $200, but the TV tuner software sucks and has a bad habit of self-destructing every time I upgrade the drivers.

I finally took out my GeForce 1 out of my mom's computer and gave her my brother's old GeForce 4. The GeForce 1 is still sitting in an anti-static bag on my desk.

Anyone in this thread who would like to give a pair of 12mb Voodoo2's (did they make 16mb?) a good home, PM me. I'm in the mood for some old-school SLI goodness.

My crusty old PPro Win98SE box thanks you in advance.

Got all kinds of videocard goodies laying around... V2-8mb, V3, V5-5500, GF4-4400, and a really sweet Elsa GF2-Ultra that was the king of the hill back when I bought it. Even have a really awesome Obsidian X-24 which is Voodoo2 SLI on one huge sandwich-like card.

I don't do the cutting edge thing anymore because top of the line used to be ~$300 and now the top of the line is $650 or $1,300 for a pair of them. My ~$127 7900GS gets the job done nicely on every game out when paired with a C2D running at 3.2Ghz.

dual voodoo 12mb in SLI > TNT2 Ultra > Radeon 8500 > Radeon 9700 Pro > Radeon x800XT PE > 8800GTS. The 9700 Pro just quit on me last month. Worked great in the media center pc. The voodoo's and tnt2 are the only other ones put out to pasture.

Voodoo 1 (long gone)>Voodoo3 3000 (just gave it away)>Voodoo5 5500 (sold it years ago)>GF3 (gave it away a couple years ago)>GF4 4600 (ditched it)>GF6 6800GTOC (sold it)>GF7 7800GTX (what I'm using now)

I've got some S3 Virges lying around though

Did anyone ever make Voodoo2 drivers for XP?

How does the orginal Unreal play on XP with modern nvidia cards and drivers?
