I've wasted a fair amount of time on the video updates dude keeps on their channel 9 website. Some of this stuff from Vista is a breath of fresh air.
The networking stack is getting redone. The guys in the video said that the way that Vista will recover from a packet loss will make your DSL connection faster just by having a Vista machine plugged into the line. Also they're rockin ipv6.
Volume control is finally getting fixed. Much more user friendly and simple. New sound recorder too, and it records in WMA for as long as you want.
The new XPS printer tech is quite neat as well. Hard to explain without actually finding the comparison in the printouts from the video. But the current printing standard is quickly realized to suck when you see these comparisons. They also finally have compression when you send a picture to the printer so that you don't have these long delays to print the large files that we use today.
There's the visual styles. The quick searches. Fixes for a lot of hardware support. Regulation of registry usage so that every vendor has to follow the same protocols for where the information is stored.
They are also planning on having all of the distributions on one disc (DVD) and the user just keying in the copy they bought. Tee Hee!
