Paying with a debit card was one of the stupidest things you can do. CC's have far better protections than debit cards. Plus, people listen to you when you still have the money.

The OP should have the same protections since it was run through the VISA system as a credit card. Had it been a B&M store and he used his PIN number then it would be run through the banks system (some banks offer additonal services for fraudulent charges and such).

Visa will offer some protections.. OP give them a call.

I don't know about that. It's still a debit card - just run through as a credit transaction (but the money is pretty much removed right away or within a day or two).

AFAIK, it isn't the transaction handling company that offers the protections by law, it is the issuing bank.

Does your debit card have a visa logo on it? If so you have some protections afforded by Visa when used as a credit card. I think they also do chargebacks for debit cards as well. I did a chargeback at my bank with my bank issued visa card.

Because wedding services are typically not driven by repeat business? The woman doesn't worry about customer retention because most of her customers will only seek her services once; most people don't get married all that frequently.

true but most people who do wedding-related business rely on word of mouth to get business. I know we mostly dealt with people who had done our friends weddings.

fail. ALWAYS USE A CREDIT CARD...pay it the same day if you are worried about interest.

You are not protected the same way with a debit even if it's a CC endorsed one.

I'd have ordered the invites a lot earlier if your wedding is in March. I don't see how they wouldn't fit...envelopes and stock are set sizes and more than likely they are needing to be slid in exactly straight.

I don't see really how the lady has been an asshole...mistakes happen, companies are made or lost by how they handle it.

Being he is not on the contract should be clear to anyone why he wouldn't have the authority to make changes to such a critical order or have new invites issued. Giving it even an extra day at this point for his fiancee to get into the call won't hurt anything.

People are so quick to jump at any poster's irrationality.

It does suck, but I am sure they will work it out if you had done your research and picked a reputable invite company.

Since the industry mantra is that a good customer tells two people but a dissatisified one tells eight, I say triple that and tell at least two dozen people how bad she treated you over a miniscule difficulty. Then take it online. Find where she advertises and post reviews that make note of the actual issue, so that truth is your defense.

THEN, get yourself to Kinko's and trim the invites down by hand and forget about it.

OH and your debit card, if it has the VISA or Master Card logo on it, this would be one of those times where you pick "credit" on the checkout menu. You get the same rights that way. Listen to Clark Howard for that.

Do you carry health insurance? Why, are you EXPECTING to get sick?

YOUR BAD for using a Debit card and YOUR BAD using a company without doing any homework/background checking/testimonials first.

Between the guy who paid CASH for a locksmith who ripped him off and you, there will be plenty of competition for ownage of the day.

Good luck with your invites. I hope you are wiser in the future.
Unless that company had more negative than positive reviews, than I don't see it as being his fault. Testimonials are hardly an indication of anything other than a bad experience. Just because a guy loses a package with FedEx doesn't mean I or anyone else should stop using FedEx for fear of a lost package. You're a clueless douche.

Long story short. Fiancee ordered wedding invitations through alaunbydesign.com. We ordered a couple sets of previews (which we paid for) to get the font we liked. We finally made the final order at the beginning of Dec. Our wedding is March 7th and the invitations have to go out between 4-6 weeks before the wedding. We got the invites in two days ago (a week after they said they'd be in). We found a few problems. We got invitations as well as envelopes with the addresses printed on them, along with all those other things that go with wedding invites. Well the font on the invite is wrong (not the end of the world, but disappointing), one of the names is spelled incorrectly (oh welll, we can fix it) but THE MOTHER FUCKING INVITATION IS THE EXACT SAME SIZE AS THE ENVELOPE IT GOES IN!!! IT doesn't fucking fit in the envelope!!! omfg who the fuck is stupid enough to do that?!??

So I call this damn company and speak with the owner. She's a total bitch. At first she doesn't want to talkto me cause I didnt sign the agreement. I tell her my fiancee isn't here and she's going to talk to me. We tried emailing her two days ago and she never responded. She claims if we would have sent the email she would have got it so it didn't go through. Well WTF? I did it through her website so maybe her websites fubar'd, but whatever. Anyways, this bitch lady tells me we signed an agreement yatta yatta and that I have to send all the shit back before they will do anything (I'm assuming at my cost). I told her I don't even care about the font i just want envelopes of the right size and we need these asap. Well she still si makign me send them back before she does anything, even though I dont have the time to do that now! I told her I'd send back the old envelopes and wait for the new ones since I don't have time. She told me it was against her policy (even though she owns the business). I told her I was extremely dissatisfied etc... and I told her I would report her to BBB. She actually said "Good, do it cause I held up my end of the agreement", which she didnt cause the envelopes are the wrong fuckign size. I also told her I'd stop payment if we didnt get this taken care of. She told me I can't cause she already has my money. We paid with a debit card out of our bank account. With a credit card I could dispute payment and ship her all of her bulslhit back, but I don't know if we can with a debit card. What the fuck do we do now?

Cliffs: This lady's a fucking bitch.

you're an idiot for paying for everything up front

your an idiot for paying with a debit card.

cut the invites to fit the envelope.

did you research the company b4 u hired them? ie: reviews? referrals?
if not, your an idiot.
if so, then go out of your way to ruin her business by writing bad reviews and referrals OVER AND OVER again till she's out of business

As mentioned here (many times already), many debit cards go through credit card companies for online transactions, offering the same or some protections.

I also fail to see where he mentions anything about not researching. Perhaps in your deluded little brain he said that, but I fail to see it anywhere.

Good luck to you, your assumptions have served you well in portraying perpetual stupidity.

DEFINITELY WRONG INFORMATION

Most debit cards you must report the fraud within much less than 30 days to be covered, the money comes out of your BANK ACCOUNT...most will never do a full reimbursement if you report...you are lucky to get any money back same day.

Also I don't fault the invitation lady giving the OP a hard since he wasn't on the agreement. Most of you probably haven't dated much or are even in line to be married in the next few years, but just imagine how many jilted lovers are trying to fuck up all aspects of their exes wedding plans.

Let me clear up a few things.

1. A great deal of research was done into every aspect of this wedding, including the invitations. My fiancee did the research, but I know she found them to be one of the better priced/recommended ones.
2. My debit card does have a visa logo. I never use my credit cards because to be quite honest I always forget when I charge little things on them and forget to pay them. My fault, but at the same time I didnt expect to have a problem. Lesson learned.
3. I understand about not being on the contract, I don't have a problem having my fiancee authorize new envelopes being made. The thing I'm upset about is the envelopes are the wrong size (the lady said they should be 6 inches wide and they are 5 1/2, so clearly the wrong size) and she won't send out new ones until she receives the old ones, even though we are in a time crunch. She made this decision FAAAR before I got angry with her. I was very polite at first, until I realized she was going to do absolutely nothing to go out of her way for an error her company made. Further more, I will have to pay for the shipping out of my pocket and given the timeframe we have left, it will have to be express shipping.

Also, keep in mind people we ordered these invitations at the very beginning of Dec. Its not like we ordered these a week ago. They had 8 weeks to print out about 40 invitations with invites. Its not a huge order and shouldn't have been that big of a deal. Had they sent us the shit correctly the first time we would have had plenty of time to get them sent out. I suppose its my fault for not assuming they would fuck up the order the first time and I'd need to have them sent out again. Next time I get married I'll order them 6 months in advance rather than just 3.

Given your ridiculously hostile attitude for no reason, I feel the need to respond to you directly.

You're an idiot for assuming I had a choice to not pay up front. They make you.

You're an idiot for not realizing that people make small mistakes by trusting others and assuming a company that had good reviews previously wasn't going to be a major hassle to deal with. My fault for not protecting my ass better, lesson learned, but I'd hardly say that makes me an idiot. It simply makes me young and still learning life lessons. Protect your ass. Always. Thanks for being a fucker though.

You're an idiot for assuming we didn't research the company. We did.

Wow do you really go through life with this attitude? You have no intention to ever get married?

There are people who are willing to work at a relationship with another human being. It's sad that people are unwilling to right up front. There's so much more to live for than yourself.

Tell me you're a divorcee and your bitterness will make some sense. Even if that's the case, one person is not the same as the next.
