Neighbor is leaving on an rv trip, and now i have to take care of their kid's tarantula.
He's just chillin in his box with like 5 crickets just crawling about. They also gave me this other box with about 20 crickets in it. Supposedly I just have to make sure that the tarantula sits in his box, and whenever the crickets disappear, just add a few crickets back from the crickets box. Easy enough. But what about the crickets themselves? They're just in this box with like woodchips or something, but nothing else. How do I keep the crickets alive? Do they need water, what do they eat?

i've seen cricket boxes with slices of apple inside...I think they'll eat that.

They'll eat fruit and vegetables. If you feed them crappy food, they'll supposedly eat each other.

the wife said something about a potato in the box, but she had no idea, but now i guess it is semi plausible. I guess i'll just try to cut up an apple. there's like 2 in the fridge that have been sitting there for about a month, might as well give it to the crickets.

I don't get it.

Spiders have eyes on the top of their head.

Release 100 crickets into the box. Who will win--the blind spider or the 100 crickets?

Kill it, tell them it ran away. The world will have one less atrocity.

I only feed my tarantulas every week or so, if that. Any crickets not eaten within 24 hours should be removed - you can then try and feed the tarantula again in a few days. Just make sure to keep some fresh water in the container.

My golden knee once went 6 months without eating. She ate a bit after that, then molted after not eating again for another couple months.

how can a tarantula go without eating for 6 months?

can you take them out and play with them/hold/pet them or do they hate you for life?

Just get them defanged and you can do anything you want to them.

Tarantulas aren't exactly active, and the way their bodies store energy, they can go for extremely long periods of time with no food or water. I read about one tarantula that was missing for almost a year and was in pretty poor shape, but alive when found.

Different species of tarantula are better for handling. Mine is a Grammostola aureostriata (Golden Knee), and handles very well. No problems picking her up or even holding her upside down.

Picture of tarantula in 2004

Again, 2005 She's about 5.5" in this picture.

She's getting ready to molt again, and will probably be in the range of 7" afterwards.

There isn't any such thing. Removing a spider's fangs would kill it.
