Yeah, spend all your money now so that when you are broke and can't afford anything you can look back with fondness upon the cause of your misery....

if u want to be a ricer, pick the STI! yEAH!@

That ranks with one of the most ignorant things I have heard today  You do understand the STI was meant to be a rally car, right?

yea but in united states... do really does use it for rallying? so yea these cars are bought by kids to race, kill and show off.. out of 10wrx i seen driven, i only see 1 of them driven by a proper adult...

i think you could say that about every sports car.

uh no not quite... m3?, g35?, 350z? no i have seen none modded to extreme as i have seen with wrx/or mitsu

i'm talking about kids just showing them off. even if an adult was driving them... i think those that actually know how to drive them are a minority. around here... those fancy sportscars are nothing more than starbucks chariots.

so call my on the technicalities, im waiting.
First, it's not an extra second in the quarter, it's 2 seconds, stock for stock, mod for mod (until you get REALLY serious). Next, the STi comes stock significantly upgraded compared to an RS in terms of suspension and braking. Then there's the fact that SOA only sold about 10k GC6/GM6's in the USDM during 4 years of production. They are pretty rare, hard to come by, and have relatively high resale values.
A 98-01 RS is a great little car (I know, I own one), but from a performance perspective is on par with like a VW GTI or an Integra (except the RS has better handling than those). OTOH, the STi is a performance freakin beast. Now, with a lot of modding and an engine swap, an RS can be made into that same performance beast (that's what a "GC8" really is, an EDM WRX sedan pre-01), but by that time you'll have spent quite a bit of money. Probably almost as much as buying an STi in the first place, and that would defeat the purpose IMO (except to have a VERY cool little car).

BTW, just to try to lend some credibility to what I'm trying to tell you, here's my 03 WRX sedan (my daily driver) and my 01 RS coupe (her daily driver). Sorry for the crappy quality, those are the only pics I have up right now.

I'm kind of surprised how many people think this way. "I'm gonna piss away all my money while I'm young and have no obligations."

Hell if anything, this is the one period in life you can get ahead before life catches up to you. I don't think most people realize that there is a finite amount of money you can earn in your lifetime and relatively speaking, it's not a big number. This guy at my last work, when he was young, he pissed away all his money on cars and bikes and now he is a middle aged guy with wife and two kids at a dead end job who can't get ahead. :\

Put the money away or invest in it. Why would you freaking throw all that money away and add a liability upon yourself where the price of the damn STI will drop 50% in a few years?

Buying a car new is the worst thing you can do. Invest in the money to make more money....

Schools across the U.S. should teach kids more about the subject of money.

All they ever teach us is how to work hard and become an excellent employee and waste more money on liabilities & taxes.

the harder you work, the more money you get, the more tax you pay. You're encourage to spend spend spend. on liabilities that you think are good investment.

shees.

sh*t dude, I just calculated my life out and if I make an average of 70k/yr for the next 40 yrs of my life, I will only have 2.8M. And that's BEFORE TAX for the WHOLE LIFE.

Damn, I gotta stop eating out for lunch everyday.

Umm... nothing is safe... I've seen ALL of the above modded to look crappy and drive slower with hundreds of pounds of ICE and ugly body mods on them.

Besides, the M3 is still a yuppie car even if you aren't a yuppie. Just like the Camaro and Mustang are "mullet"/guido cars and my Eclipse is a "girl" car and Miatas are for the "flamboyant." When you buy a car, you buy the image that comes with it by default.

And LMAO at "Starbucks chariots" So true... many times people do buy a car mainly because there is an image attached to the brand/car whether it be subconsciously or consciously.
