Dear Friends, I refuse to pay $2K or more for a single graphics card, especially since the original MSRP for Nvidia's RTX 3080 was $700, but I've seen prices for it as high as $2,700K. That's ridiculous.. I'll take up some other hobby/ies in the meantime. I wish you, who are still on this ever-inclining treadmill, that you'll find what you want. Good luck.

lol....

Its madness i tell you.
A friend of mine who drove by one said it was worse then black friday.
A LOT WORSE, that they drove up, saw, and went "OH HELLZ NO, lets just go back to bed. "

Try a genre you usually don't play, or reduce settings and stop being spoiled babies.

*throws tantrum*
Why oh why is it that the fun toys goto the wrong people who never use them as intended, and always ruin it for us.
and no i need my settings and HDR... i need RTX... i need to see the explosions reflect off water, and the bullets do the matrix bullet time when my character dodges.

*my attempt to regress back to a baby*

oh well.. thanks miners.. thanks alot

I don't think that it's just miners that you can blame for this. The new console launches and the chip shortage in general certainly aren't helping things.

But, yeah... I'm not buying another graphics card until I can get something that's twice as fast as my 2060 Super for under $400. I'm probably going to be waiting awhile

Amazon and PepsiCo would probably like to have a word with you about that... among others.

Needs to go. It doesn't solve a problem that previously existed. Anyone who is out touting it's "benefit" is either the creator or a miner. If anyone really wants to help society then they'd be doing DC. Then there wouldn't be the hoarding of all the computer equipment. Time to outlaw crypto.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but bitcoin is here to stay.
There is just too much cash tied to it now.

And now with institutions like coinbase, and Binance, open to allow regulation, welp... i think california will have the next big one, and sink into the pacific ocean before bitcoin disappears..

(well a bit of sarcasm, but with many companies now offering acceptance tokens, or proof of stake in cryptos its just too hard to make it die.)

Also with Stablecoin's like USDC its almost impossible for someone to lose 100% everything.. as USDC is backed by US dollars to begin with.

I really don't care anymore, so long as *coin markets move to POS or specialized ASICs and get off our damn GPUs

- @Ajay gets it. Its not about the coins or the underlying tech or any of that stuff. Those can stay and remake the world or they can go and be left in the dustbin of history.

Its about mining them on GPUs and completely distorting the market for what has historically been GPU's primary audience. Its about as soon as the coin de jour cannot be mined on GPUs, miners move over to whatever alt-coin and create a speculative market around it, starting the whole cycle over again.

One big problem is banks and credit card companies, the interest that they pay us, and the interest that they charge others.

Crypto is attempting to solve that problem by employing computer code rather than vampiric humans.

Yeah, that's the reason people are buying up all the computer parts and wasting all of that electricity. Because of the interest that banks charge... Or....

People are buying up parts and "wasting" electricity because it's currently profitable to do so, not because they believe they are part of some grand crusade against the banks.

Why is mining profitable?

Because the demand for crypto transactions is high.

Why is demand high?

Because people and institutions are investing heavily in something they foresee as both inevitable and as a beneficial alternative to the financial institutions that bleed their respective economies dry.

The same banks that are "bleeding the economies dry" are the ones investing in crypto now. Anyone else wonder how things will turn out?

Small good news
As of this morning you could buy almost any AMD card you wanted. Unfortunately they were all priced $1600 to $2600.
Still this is a good first step. Next step would be nvidia cards, then price drops.

Maybe horrifically, and the fact that people are willing to take such risk indicates the level of distrust they have with their preexisting financial systems.

The sooner we make it illegal, the better

What a load of crap. The only reason they're doing it is cuz they're making money off of speculation. I don't see how you can defend cryptocurrency any longer. You're part of the problem.

Yes, speculative greed is the primary motivation, but every crypto nerd I’ve talked to believes they are also part of something bigger that will give the little guy a new level of financial freedom and change the world for the better in the process. It is far more than a speculative number to these people. It is their identity.

I’m not defending crypto-I’m explaining why it won’t go away anytime soon.

Ive never recommended crypto to anybody. I own a tiny bit and I mined a little on my 2060 s. Sue me.

They're lying. If it wasn't for profit they'd all be doing something else. Something else productive.
