I was addicted to energy drinks, like bad, drank 2-4 a day as well as a few pops, did this for 3 years. It was horrible, but i worked odd hours rotating shifts and needed something to keep me awake as i never had the same sleep schedule. I was honestly more addicted to them than when i had my cocaine addiction.
Coke worked great but after i stopped using it is when i got addicted to energy drinks/pop, maybe i just replaced coke with energy drinks i dunno, funny thing is coke may have been better for me in the long run which just goes to show you how bad pop can be for you. Anyways my dad went into the hospital one day, he had a heart attack. When i was in there visiting him he was in a room with a 24 year old gentleman who had also just had a heart attack, this guy was in great shape, was a workout freak drank smoothies every moring type of guy, was in absolute great health, he also ran marathons. When i asked him what brought on the heart attack he told me it was the 3 red bulls and 3-4 pops he drank a day. That the caffine/sugar was to much for him, at least thats what the doctors concluded after being baffled as to the cause because he was in such good shape, they ran dozens of tests on him to come to this conclusion because none of the obvious reasons were it.
I then went to my doctor for a physical. He ran some tests took some blood then called me back in for the results. He told me i was headed for diabetes(which my family history has lot of) and that my blood pressure and kidneys were in horrible shape for my age, and that i needed to make some changes or i would likely be dead by 40(im 37 now, was 30 at the time)
It was like a light switch flipped in my head at that point, i realized i was killing myself by doing what i was doing. Literally as i looked at my doctors face my life changed as i absorbed the data he was telling me. A true light bulb goes on moment. I quite my job the next day no notice and got one with normal hours, and stopped drinking all energy drinks and pop. Cold turkey overnight this happened. I had horrible headaches for a few weeks but after that i was fine. Now 99% of what i drink is just plain water. Been 7 years since i stopped the energy drinks and pop and i feel great. Pretty sure ill make it past 40 now unless i get hit by a bus.
The only time i drink pop now is for mix when i drink, and i only drink maybe once a month, so i drink less than a flat of pop a year now. And no energy drinks ever.
All you need to do OP is really truly understand how bad for you this is, then it should make stopping pretty easy. Afterall no one wants to die a early death or get diabetis and end up getting limbs removed as welsh mentioned, which is a real situation my father in law just had his lower leg removed last year.
