Hello,

I just purchase this inexpensive barebones case from Compusa----see link below:

Case

I know most intake fans in the front of the case must be placed toward the bottom. However, as you can see from this picture, there really is no room to make any type of modification toward the bottom of the case.

So, what I was thinking, since I not going to use two of my 5.25 external bays, I could place a 80mm fan on the top portion of the case. I have already made the measurements and the 80mm will fit, but I worry about functionality.

Has anyone tried this before by placing an intake fan toward the front top of the case vs. the bottom of the case?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Perhaps a link/URL of several pics?

Also, check right below the HD bays on the front inside. Useually there's a 120mm there.

Well, first of all, usually you'll get best results by using your extra fan as a rear exhaust. What goes out the back, must come in somewhere else, such as front and side vent slots.

Anyway, without being able to see the inside of the case, I can only speculate that there will be a plastic fan-holder cage in the lower front area, which you unsnap from the wall of the case and insert an 80mm fan into. See anything like that in there?

I agree that without better pics of the interior of this case, it's hard to say what would work the best for you.

Many times, the actual chassis may be set up entirely different than the front bezel. Some manufacturers use many different front bezels on the same chassis to create models with different cosmetic looks. Even the best manufacturers don't always pay as much attention to airflow as they could, i.e., the Lian-Li 6070, with the fancy full front door which results in mediocre thermal performance.
