Get more into photography with a DSLR. I've done alot of reading about how the lens or glass is the most important thing. So, what about buying a used body off of KEH from the Canon 20D/30D era then buying some nice canon autofocus primes. Trying to stay under $1000. I might even get the Sigma 2.8 zoom lens and a 50mm prime.
Thoughts on 'old body' with 'new glass'?
I don't know much about the Canon universe, but in the Nikon universe there was a technology transition from the autofocus motor existing in the camera body, to each lens having its own autofocus capabilities built in so focus motors in the body were redundant.
Naturally, these new lenses with built-in autofocus are more expensive than the older autofocus lenses that were driven bt the body's on-board motor. The new autofocus is certainly much faster and accurate, quieter too. Optically, the old and new lenses tend to be broadly equal, however.
I've chosen a camera body with the built-in focus motor that will let me use the older lenses for significantly lower cost while still achieving appropriately high image quality.
I've been pretty satisfied with this approach for myself. Take that for what it's worth.
