image processing c++ classes

Does anyone have any suggestions on image processing classes for c++? It is a posibility to purchase them, but open source is preferable. Right now, I am working with matlab to take an image of water from overhead and detect a boat in the water. Right now, I am using edge detection, and it works ok, but I would like to use something more advanced. I'm looking for resources/links more than anything.

I did an internship at Matrox Imaging (not the same as Matrox Graphics), and their MIL (Matrox Imaging Library, C/C++ library) is extremely powerful. You'll have every edge detection, pattern recognition, etc you could ever dream of available and support for ANY kind of image. Furthermore, if you want to analyze video, you'll probably be able to do it in real time without even needing a special board. MIL is VERY heavily optimized in MMX/SSE (that was my job!! ).

It may be overkill for you though (full version is 4000$) but you can have MIL-lite for 500$ (I think).

I am quite sure I have seen some open-source libraries, but I cannot recally where. Search google and newsgroups. You may find something.
