Image Quality - Nvidia vs. ATI

I can't tell the difference, unless maybe I had side by side comparisons and someone pointed out what was different, and if you have to go that far, I don't really care.

But I also don't mind TN panels so what do I know.

You were watching digital tv on a anolog tuner card? No wonder it's like watching youtube videos.

1800xl > 7600gt in speed and image quality. All 1800/1900 series have better image quality than all 7 series.

I went from a 7900GS to a 2900Pro. I'd say the 7900GS looks nearly as good as the 2900Pro. It's hard for me to do an apples to apples comparison though as with the 2900 I am able to have a lot more on screen so that'll make it look better too. But yesterday as I was playing Two Worlds even my wife (who knows nothing about games) commented on how vibrant everything looked on screen. She never said anything about any game in the past. <shrug>

Maybe I'm an old man, but I remember when IQ varied brand by brand, card by card. LeadTek, for example, produced Nvidia cards with much better IQ (especially 1280x1024 and above) than other vendors using the same GPU. Now, with most using DVI outputs, IQ is pretty even across the board in terms of 2d and pixel accuracy. I think the OP in this thread was talking about 3d IQ, which is also subjective to a point, but anyways .. either a new Nvidia or ATI card will have such good IQ as to make quibbling about it irrelevant, at least for this generation.

Even though most reviews seem to point out that they look similar, in my opinion ATI cards still produce MUCH better image quality. I've got a 9600XT in my secondary PC and a 6800GS in my daily. The 9600XT produces MUCH more vibrant colors and they just seem to 'pop' and really look great. I've also noticed that the AF on the 9600XT is of much higher quality than the 6800GS. The colors that the 6800GS produces seem very plain and uninteresting. Digital vibrance does make it a little better but its still nowhere near to the 9600XT. I also noticed the same difference between PS3 and Xbox360 graphics. The colors that the 360 displayed seemed leaps and bounds better than the murky **** from the PS3.

I noticed this too, between a 9600Pro and a 6800nu. I havn't seen any of the recent ATI cards so I don't know what it's like now/

You know I never really got into the whole fanboy thing. Even when I was a young kid I thought people who engaged in console wars were incredibly stupid and immature, but whatever makes you happy.

However the fps difference in Crysis ranges from 1-5 FPS from the 8800gt, which doesn't bring it anywhere near a slideshow. Neither card runs Crysis incredibly well, and if the image quality is better in Crysis, I would think it is going to be better in other games too.

I always thought digital vibrance made the colors look so unnatural. 7 series colors are fine. It's the AF that is seriously lacking compared to x1000 series or 8 series.

The key words here are"you think". Trust me there are far more peeps that like DV than don't. The key with DV is moderation (I use about 15%). I'm able to get the dekstop (2d) better looking then any of my previous ATI cards, and including an X1950xt I had for a short time before I sold it along with a whole system. I will say that the X1950xt was a tad better in games though. But overall it's about what the user likes and I definitely like the 7950GT better overall' (subjectively) then the x1950xt.
