i just upgraded from an powercolor x1950pro and a crappy three year old 'comes free with your system' 17" dell LCD to an evga 8800gt OC and a samsung 2253bw/hp w2207h. the reason i have two monitors as my monitor upgrade is because i plan to return one or both depending on the information i can gather about the topic title.
after having tried many many times to calibrate the monitors i upgraded too, i could not get them to a point where they were even half as comfortable on my eyes as my old setup was when doing desktop work i.e. browsing the web. first i thought i was just doing the wrong things when trying to calibrate, but text was just too hard to read and strained my eyes too much, and light colors had this gleaming or noisy attribute to them. finally i plugged my old monitor back in, and i was still getting the same thing, but when i reinstalled my x1950pro, it was definitely more comfortable for my eyes. so is anyone aware if there is a difference between ati and nvidia cards in image quality for things like text and desktop use? if there is, is there anything i can do on my 8800gt to make it more like my ati card? maybe my eyes just need a rest, and i need to get a non-TN panel to fix my situation, or i should get an ATI card.
