A lot of these arguments about +R vs. -R are made by biased camps, so the information available is moot. In the past there were more -R drives sold, so more people have TESTED -R media. That's mainly why dvdrhelp shows more players supporting -R. Oh and 2.4x +R (there is no 2x +R) burns in 23-24 mins, not 31-32, just so you know.

I have bought 2 dvd players (for other people) since I have had -R and +R burners (1 Pioneer, 1 HP and 1 Sony), so I went to several stores and tried out +R and -R discs. I did not find any players that played the -R but not +R, and actually a few more played +RW than -RW. This is just a random sample of fairly new DVD players in Circuit City and Best Buy. Not a scientific study, but I trust my own experience over a bunch of people who've already decided which is better (mainly because they only own one type of burner.) Same should go for you, so don't trust my opinion if you have the opportunity go to your local store and try out some discs - Oh yeah, be sure to test with good discs for both types.

Back to the topic, according to DVDRHelp, in the past Imation +R discs were Ricohs (I've had good experiences with these) but many former Ricoh only customers have moved some production to Taiwan, so this is no guarantee that its not a CMC disc.

This is correct. +r and +rw discs are designed to work better with current dvd player designs, so while their compatability is not quite as good on some older players, the newer ones will almost 100% play the + discs. This sin't true of the - discs. + seems to be the most future proof, but the best solution for now is still a dual format burner

Thanks Richard. If its Ricoh, this means Imation is same quality as TDK.

Another question. someone mentioned that the newer imation are made in taiwan, thus not Ricoh. So where are these Ricoh made from? Japan?

Cut from my post with DVDInfo in it:

Media code/Mfr ID RICOHJPNR00

I assume the JPN in the above stands for Japan.

Picked up this deal. It rung up as 54.99! And the rebate printed at the register. Instead of a spindle, it came in a box with 2 25-pack spindles.

For some reason I can't seem to locate the rebate anywhere on their website. Anyone care to help me out a bit?

Anyone able to get their "2x" DVD-RW discs to write at 2x? I have an A)% drive with the hacked firmware to write 2x on the Ritec G03 media, so I was assuming this should write at 2x since it advertised 2x speed even though it's DVD-RW. I may have to try the TDK DVD-RW at CC to see if I can get 2x out of that.

It doesn't look like the rebate form is on their site anymore - call 1-888-BEST BUY (237-8289) - they maybe able to help you out.

The Way I see it DVD-R are the cheepest because its has been around the longest. and DVD+ RW is the most versitial because of the features the platform supports. So get a dual format burner and use DVD-R's for copying and DVD+RW for authoring

Thanks for the reply, but yeah I was on the phone and still have lots of places to call (busy), so was hoping while on hold I can get an answer here or a link to the PDF file hosted elsewhere. Oh well, thanks anyways.
