Buy a power inverter for your car that gives you an A/C outlit in your car, that way you can just plug the RipGo's power supply into the inverter.

comes out to around 30cents a media.

I actually bought this thing to use in the car. i got a car adapter for this thing..but it RipGo says it needs 6V-2Amps..now thats a lotta amps man to get form a car. is there a car converter that might give that many amps from it..

the one i got is 6V-500mA. so i dont think that will be able to charge up the battery or at least keep the battery from draining.

I was looking at the similar thread on bulging billfold and one of the last posts mentioned that it might read cdrw that is the first I have heard of that but if it turns out to be accurate....The microcenter deal might be good depending on shipping

One VERY important question.....is the rebate through CrapUUSR? Or is it a manufacturer's rebate? If it's CrapUSSR, then this is not a hot deal....I'm still waiting (like many others) for a $20 rebate (it's been a year).
The rebate address appears to be for Imation. The reference to a bundle rebate in the ad bothers me. But there is no mention of a bundle in the online rebate form or the register POS form.

I got mine Friday and I totally love this thing! No skips yet. I have burned some mini's in the Ripgo and on my internal LiteOn and they play fine. My only complaint is that it take a long time to start playing an mp3 cd (lots of seek time!).

I am sorry, I know this is pretty old, but I would like to rant and complain. I bought 2 online, stupid CrapUSA sent me two returned ones! And they are friggin' old to boot, made in Oct and Nov 2001.

How do I know they are returned? Seals were broken, sticker says "inspected, blah blah", zip ties were off of some cables, etc.

I could've sworn they aren't allowed to sell these as new (they did say that's why they charge the 15% restocking fee, cause they can't sell returns as new). Grr...but at least they both seem to work.

So has anyone gotten RWs to work?

At the B&M, at least half of them on the shelf had their seals broken. I'm surprised they sent those out to people.

Every one that I have seen has had the seal broken. They may have inserted something after sealing them? You would think they would reseal them then. But, at least 8 confirmed were cut seals, and no confirmed sealed.

I had to return my first one cause it would not read CDRs that I had just burned on it. It did not read a CDR that I burned in my PC CDRW either. The replacement seems to be working ok.

The seal on the first one was fully broken and partially broken on the second one. I think it's because of the type of seal material they used and where they placed it on the box top. You would think that they would have shrink wrapped these things since they originally cost so much.

Don't forget that the rebate has to be postmarked by 3/8.

Yeah, this is true. None of the seals are intact probably due to the brittle nature of the material they used to seal these things. I went back and tried to look for one with a fully intact seal, but the best they had were ones that looked like they had partial seals ( at least from the angle I looked at it from).

I tried and the unit said "no disc". I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

So anyone else burn with the ripgo successfully? I used Nero (not the version supplied) and the CD was screwy. CDROM on the computer wouldn't read, ripgo would read maybe after the first 7 tracks.

If you got it to work, what setting did you use? Mode 1, Mode 2, Joliet, etc. Thanks.

BTW, Fry's has 10 mini CDRs for $2.90, pretty decent deal.

ISO2, mode1. That was the setting when I used it. Put ~180M (90+ files) of wma tunes on it using latest Nero and using RipGo. Worked fine the first time. Put it in shuffle mode and you have 5-6 hrs of varied music. Very nice...

Mine may be turning out to be a pos. The battery won't hold a charge and it won't burn memorex cd-r's. However, it will play them if I record them off another drive.

Mine's been fine...skips every now and then but at $30 (once I get the rebate) I'm happy - much cheaper than anything else out there.

Both me and my friend returned ours. It would burn the cd fine. A regular cdrom would read them. It would also read the disks when using the power cord. But when using battery power, it would display the no disk. Mine also sounded like there was a spring loose somewhere. Not worth it, I think.

While this is not really a hot deals thread at this point, I thought I'd share a few tips in case a good sale comes by again.

1. When burning CD's, I only burn in my computer's CD-RW because of its speed and the hassle caused by disconnecting the Ripgo from the USB cable. I have never had an issue with a disc burned in two of my regular CD-RWs.

2. Burn using Disc-at-once (DAO) even though you are burning data. I burned about a dozen discs testing this, and it is the difference between the unit recognizing the disc every time or once in 20 tries. I thought my unit was defective before I discovered this.

3. Despite what the literature says about 185 MB discs, the unit will read at least 210 MB discs.

BTW, I've never seen a box without a broken seal. Also, I just received my rebate from the black friday sale yesterday.

One question: I have a unit with 1.07 firmware, but I cannot update it. When I hook up the unit via USB, it registers in explorer, reads discs, and burns discs. However, the flash program never recognizes the drive. Has anyone had this problem or found a workaround?

i had the same problem updating the firmware with the RipGo! connected thru a USB hub. once it was connected straight to computer, i had no problem with the firmware update.

btw, i've had no problems with it so far and think the RipGo! is worth the $20 AR i paid for it.
