Sorry, it I wasn't clear. I was able to record fine with Windows Media Player (I fit 4 cd's on in about 5 minutes with some room to spare). All I had to do was go to the properties for the drive and enable it to record. What I'm not clear is whether there is some additional functionality that Nero has or WMP that I'm missing. I just try to avoid installing redundant applications.

The headphones that come with the unit are AWESOME. They don't have any brand name on them, but they sound better than the usual crap you get with portable devices.

Picked one up, not bad for $20. Tried burning 240MB (on the CompUSA brand 245MB miniCDs) - funny thing is that the RipGo burned it successfully, as far as I can tell, but it CANNOT READ IT :Q. Then burned 160MB on the same color disc (I was thinking it may be the color), and all is fine. Anyone know the limit of this thing? Is it 185MB as they state, or can you pack a little more, like maybe 210MB?

Still, not bad. Now if they combined this thing with a 20GB drive...

There is a firmware upgrade at the imation site (ver 1.11 I think).

I bought this thing on black friday for i think 30 bucks after reabate. The thing is junk.. The battery time is horrible. Runs for maybe 2 hours. For 20 bucks it is worth it. I still haven't even gotten my dayam rebate check yet. I dunno, don't sweat if you can't get one. No big deal actually

Yarp, got one of these things from CompUSA, let's hope now that hte rebates come through.

My initial observations:
Good battery life.
Good sound.
The buttons sorta suck. Like they don't have very good feedback, but then I'm being picky.
So far, i've burned 3 cd-rs and they all work fine.
The best thing about the RipGo has to be that you can use it for databackup. Albeit, 185megs of backup. :-d

Does this support "Resume" (playing from where it left off)?

Does it support low bit-rates? I'm more interested in listening to Audio Lectures than music.

Is it just mine or is this as loud as a Dreamcast when seeking?

Ok, so does this thing actually burn CD's or not? I'm confused

It burns regular CD-Rs but not CD-RW. Mini CD-Rs that is.

Has anybody tried burning a mini CD-RW on their home system and then just playing it back in this little thing?

Yes, it is. Mine is also pretty slow to access files or songs, and it barely runs for 70 minutes before shutting off. It skips during songs and is overall pretty bad. But I just exchanged it for a new one, and I hope the new one works better. Some of the posts here are encouraging, and I will post if it is better. It is going through its first 3-hour charge right now. Maybe I ruined the first one by using before I charged it?

I burned a miniCDR on my home computer, and got it to play in this thing. If you burn a CD and it doesn't work, try burning it at a lower speed.

EDIT: Sorry I misread the original thread I quoted. I don't have any exprience with mini CD-RW's. I only know mini CDRs work correctly.

I really want to like this lil' ah heck, but I have a whole different set of issues. For my first disk, I burned a radio broadcast using the leadtek card and my normal burner. I used Nero and mp3. All day long, the ripgo would turn off at 8:43 into the disk. If I fast forwarded past that point, it would play more. It doesn't skip, it just turns off.

I couldn't wait to get home and burned another disk. This time I used Windows media player and my normal burner. It seems to work pretty well, but turned itself off once. Sounds pretty decent, though. I also checked and found a lot of places online who are trying to sell it for $199.

My question is, how do you get several CDs on a single mini-disk? I thought you couldn't record below 128 kps and have it sound decent. Recording at that rate only gives me 23 minutes a disk and, at that rate, the disks really are going to get expensive. We'll have to start looking around from someone who can cut out the cores of the regular sized disks.

I was wondering specifically about CD-RW because people were reporting that they didn't work with this item, but I was not sure if everyone was finding that this item didn't burn RW discs or if they were finding that RW CD's that were burned elsewhere didn't work in this item.

And fr confirmed that not only does this item not burn mini CD-RW's, but it also does not play mini CD-RW's that are burned elsewhere.

hey if u got a microcenter close by the they are selling 50 back for memorex 185 MB disks for 16 bucks..with is not a bad deal at all.

comes out to around 30cents a media.

I actually bought this thing to use in the car. i got a car adapter for this thing..but it RipGo says it needs 6V-2Amps..now thats a lotta amps man to get form a car. is there a car converter that might give that many amps from it..

the one i got is 6V-500mA. so i dont think that will be able to charge up the battery or at least keep the battery from draining.

My second one seems a lot better. It seems a little faster and is a lot less noisy. I tested a song that my first one would always turn off in the middle of and this one played it perfectly from the same physical disc. So, if you are having issues just exchange for a new one. I will add edits to this post as I gather more information on it.

battery lasted almost 5 hours..

it skipped some.. but I think that's because I burned it at 40x and the cdrs that came with it probably werent meant to be burned that fast

next time ill lower the speed down to 4 or 16x..

otherwise it works great for me. im keeping this badboy

Are you sure you're recording it as a data (not audio) disk? If you use Nero and select Audio CD, it will decode the MP3s and write them as uncompressed audio, yielding about 20-odd minutes of music... If you record it as a data CD, you should get about 185MB, which should be in the neighborhood of 3 hours of music at 128kbps.

(I don't have one of these things, but I've been looking over the user guide.)
