I decided to try my hand at makign California rolls last night while I was waiting on some potstickers I made to cook. I went to the asian grocery and the only imitation crab meat sticks they had were frozen in a 1 lb block. These are ideal for sushi b/c of their shape, etc...but I had never worked with them before.

Basically, I only needed like a half of a pound of these things. What should I do with the other half-pound? Can they refreeze safely? Does anyone have any good recipes or ideas? Thanks,

Mix with some garlic and cream cheese. Get a box of crackers. Eat.

I always use spray on butter(margarine) and put them in the microwave and just eat them. I actually really like imitation crab meat. It makes a cheap and easy meal.

Shred crab meat. Add mayo. Add a little bit of sliced green onion and some pepper. Put some between two slices of bread.

Voila! Crab salad sandwiches!

Salad, crackers, all work well. So would pasta with a cream sauce.

Chop up and use in ravioli - serve with pesto cream sauce.

Tons of possibilities. You can refreeze if you want to. It's basically cooked cod.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here on how versatile this stuff is. It's basically just solid, cooked, fish.

I don't know much about the shelf-life of it, etc.....but I think I'm going to go for a crab salad recipe and eat it for lunch tomorrow. I've got cucumbers, avacados, onions, etc.... I'll see what I can *make up*....

Crab sticks is a type of processed sea food made of surimi, or finely pulverized white fish flesh, that has been shaped and cured to vaguely resemble snow crab legs. The individual pieces are usually coloured red or yellowish red, and rectangular-oblong in shape, and small strings of the crab sticks can be neatly pulled and torn out in a similar manner to string cheese. The smell of crab sticks is similar to sea-food product and the taste is sweet, salty, and highly umami. Crab stick is cooked in its curing process and can be eaten directly from the package.
