That said, what I think Ajay is trying to say, is that we shouldn't view modern US Conservatives as sub-human, because that's how a notion of "kill them, who cares" gets started, and as liberals/lefties, that shouldn't be a part of our language or our thoughts.

If this was simply about a difference of opinion and or about some oppressed people, I’d agree with you. However these are not oppressed people, in fact they are the people who do the oppressing. This also isn’t merely a difference of opinion as there is no agreed upon reality to which they form their opinions. This is about people who put trump before their party and before their country, and who couldn’t give any less of a shit about Americans in general, hell, a lot of them don’t even care about their friends and family members who they’ve hurt because they’ve fully embraced trump.

I’ve always said, you can’t help those that don’t want to be helped.

And of course ... The Louisiana GOP has already voted to censure Bill Cassidy for not conforming to the party dictatorship because like all new authoritarian parties, they have no patience for independent belief or thought.

McConnell could have easily said nothing, or just pablum about ‘moving on’, but he didn’t. And he needs Trump voters in 2026. It may be that he has concluded this is his last term and is out of fucks to give regarding Trump once this vote was over. It may be he wants to save his reputation for the history books regarding this matter. He may be signaling to others about Trump’s vulnerabilities. But I'm pretty sure if he's not trying to console Dems. There’s no need for him to take on that role.

This feels like more of the same — protecting Trump with his action (voting to acquit) while reaching out to the money and power behind the GOP with his words - You can continue to trust me to act in your interests, while I’m blowing smoke at the jackwagons.

Though Churchill himself had plenty of blood on his hands, and was himself a racist. Never been a fan of that guy, myself. My grandparents happily voted for him to be thrown out of office once the war was over.

I slightly agree with Ajay - never mind whether it's "being as bad as they are", it's just flat-out biologically inaccurate to say they are 'not human'. I don't see the benefit in saying things that everyone knows are simply not true. At the very least, it means evading the question of why humans can end up beleiving crazy things or doing evil things and supporting Trump.
