P.S. some people on here have nothing positive to say don't say anything your rude comments aren't helping, its a shame that you feel good about putting someone down

Hello and welcome to the internet.

Ignore them and pay attention to the useful replies. Halfassed and barely coherent responses like the above are actually the worst thing you can possibly do, they do nothing to silence anyone and only give trolls more ammo.

Did they change the SAT? When I took it there were 2 scores with a max of 800 each. A total of 1420 would have been quite good

currently, it includes a writing section for a total score of 2400.

sometime in the next couple years it's changing back to a 1600 scale with 2 sections for math and reading/writing

I want to go into a business program and become an actuarial science.

Well... this is the internet. Kinda goes with the territory.

I think the assumption is that with the GPA and test scores you have, you won't get much of anything resembling grants or scholarships unless there is a LOT of financial need. Thus, the advice to attend an affordable community college first and develop better study skills/habits is probably a good one.

I wasn't kidding about the military, either. They do pay for school.

Actuarial science is usually a four year degree, or a master's program. The job outlook is pretty good, but two things jump out at me:

1) There are not many actuaries in absolute terms. (24,300)
2) There's a lot of math involved.

Root around on that site for a bit - you should probably have at least two backup career paths that involve a similar degree program, with at least 100k people employed in said career. If you get through your internship junior year and realize you're effed, you don't want to have to start from scratch.

In your situation, I would go knock out an AAS/AS at your local community college then transfer to another school for your BS/BA. Do check to find out what 4 year schools in your area are good about taking your credits from CC.

In my case, I got an AAS at a community college. The 4 year state school closest to me would only accept 40 of my credits putting me somewhere in the lower sophomore area. I instead went to a private school near me that took 60 credits and let me start as a junior. The private school was more expensive tuition wise but had a better timetable for getting my BS.

With your GPA it's much easier to go to CC for 2 years and then transfer than try to get into a good school now. Most transfer programs have really low GPA requirements. Make sure you don't fuck up again though or else you are really screwed.

I haven't seen anything negative. No one here is trolling, calling you stupid. That would be "trolling". All I've seen are truthful responses based on real life experience. That is, your grades show that you are a slacker that only gets by on the bare minimum. On top of that, you've titled this topic "impending college future", as if you are dreading going to college. Everything you've said so far sounds like you don't want to go and the only reason you're going is because it's expected of you.

Here's what most of here are talking about when we suggest that you shape up before you go to college. The dropout rate for colleges is close to 50%. Your average scores doesn't help much with your success rate.

But less than two-thirds end up graduating. Including community colleges, the graduation rate drops to 53 percent. Only Hungary does worse.

1) There's nothing wrong with being an electrician, we have some on these forums and I believe they make 60 an hour? I forgot, there was a thread on it about a month ago.

2) Do something for 3 or 4 years like join the army. I have a friend that joined and he's a Dentist now after using his army funds to go back to school. I know another guy who worked in his mom's grocery store for 4 years before going to college, he's a Pharmacist now. I also have a friend who dropped out of highschool and works for big oil making 30 an hour without any degree.

3) Nothing wrong with community college. You shouldn't spend anymore than 1 full year at one if your goal is to transfer to a 4 year institution. Every year after that, it turns your 4 year plan into a 5, 6, or 7 year plan with mountains of debt.

The decision is yours. Only you know if you're willing to shape up.

Why is it that anyone who is not too good in school is somehow smart enough for electrician. like saying , not to smart for college but being a licensed electrician is the easy way.

I would say getting a 4 year degree a substantially easier than actually becoming a successful licensed electrician.

I don't know anything about being an electrician. I just know someone mentioned it earlier. No offense to the professionals. ^_^

I think it was from an article or an internet post somewhere that I read that actually talked about this problem.

Kids that didn't do well in High School were mainly because they didn't care about it. It was just paperwork and book studying that they had no interest for.

Kids that grew up knowing how to hot wire cars, well they are obviously adept at doing some kind of trade work right? They weren't the kids that were getting high GPA, but they were handy with their..well.. hands.

For school, I don't think it is about not being "smart" enough to do it but more to do so with motivation. Someone came up to you and told you to get high marks or they will make you disappear... Chances are, you would probably study your ass off or at least die trying to get those high marks.

Do yourself a favor, community college, then transfer. It's going to be far cheaper plus you'll have time to decide what you really want to do.
