Being that the coalition was never a power house to begin with, in that there was no major Euro support, this is a blow to it. The cohesiveness of the coalition was a big factor in its ability to acheive anything and remain credible.
There was no major Euro support to begin with?

So Spain, Italy, UK, Portugal, Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Latvia, and Lithuania are not in Europe?

D'oh! I forgot Poland.

touche!
What was meant of course was the so-called `super powers` of Europe, France and Germany.........
They are only "superpowers" in their own mind. France still loves to believe itself zee beeg dawg and threaten and boss the other EU countries around as if they owned them.

What about your country? Join our war, or we will financially hurt you!
Kind of like France's threat to the fledgling EU members, huh? 'Do as we tell you or no membership for YOU!'

As someone who lives in Europe, what's you opinion on France overstepping its bounds in the EU? You know - ignoring the limits on deficit spending as if the rules don't apply to them, the limitations of agricultural free trade through farm subsidies, the bullying of the EU wannabes, etc.

BUDAPEST, Hungary - Hungary will withdraw its 300 non-combat troops from Iraq by the end of March, the country's new prime minister said Wednesday, dealing a blow to the United States' effort to hold the Iraq multinational force together.

President Bush has struggled to keep the U.S.-led multinational force from unraveling since Spain pulled out its 1,300 troops earlier this year.

The morons in the US have spoken, now the world is going to speak. Not to shocking if you ask me. People in the US seem to think world opinion is not important, yet some people won't buy foreign cars .... Go figure.....

You guys made the bed, you have to lie in it.
Sorta like the one you made with your little mistake. You know....the one where you got to sit in jail for a while because you did something illegal....yet you still try to blame the state of Georgia for it instead of blaming yourself.
ouch

More like uncalled-for, low-blow, personal attack.
Just a stating of the facts.
No, stating your opinion tainted by your bias against Dave.
So it's my opinion that Dave did something illegal and went to jail? Or is it that it is my opinion that his thread title is sensationalistic? Perhaps it could be that you are speaking that it is my opinion that Dave refuses to accept personal responsibility for what he did?

Which is it?

Somehow, I think you are a very, very bitter person and you would still be posting threads of this nature if Kerry had won.

No, I was pointing out that Dave likes to tell people that they made their bed and that now they can lie in it, but he will not do so himself. He committed an illegal act, was caught, and had to do time. However how many posts have you seen here where he blames someone else for his having to do time? The university, the state of Georgia, etc....but never himself. He made his bed, but will not lie in it and instead tries to deflect responsibility for his actions away from himself.

When you make statements advocating personal responsibility, and that "you made your own bed now lie in it." -- then it is clear to me that you must be free from hypocrisy. Dave did the exact opposite of what he is suggesting people to do, and that is relevant to the thread. It would be a personal attack if it was not relevant in the slightest, but Dave can't help but have ironic speech. Sensationalist thread titles, lies, distortions, and then hypocrisy. That's not my opinion, but rather fact. Numerous times thread titles have been proved to be false; exaggerated events to fit an ideology or "fear" campaign; hypocrisy about taking personal responsibility. All of it is mentioned simply because of his behavior. Nothing more nothing less.

You never denied you did it, but you never accepted the punishment. I have seen several threads where you make complaints and whine about the fact that your crime was punished too harshly. You blame a conspiracy on the part of the university or the state of Georgia or someone, anyone in fact but yourself. The fact is you did something that carried a penalty of X, then when you were asked to pay penalty X you started finding ways to blame someone else for your penalty instead of sucking it up, being a man, and taking the punishment.

300 non-combat troops! Oh no our soldiers will have to fight more!

I love how when someone (on this board, or Michael Moore, or John Kerry) points out that the majority of the countries who are/were part of the "coalition of the willing" play mostly insignificant roles, they are assailed as INSULTING OUR ALLIES and DISHONORING THE VALOR AND GLORY OF ALLIED TROOPS (e.g. "you forgot poland") but when a country pulls out, the neocons come screaming:

THEY ONLY HAD 300 NONCOMBATANT TROOPS, WHO GIVES A FVCK?!

Ahhhh the hypocrisy

You have told the story at least a dozen times that I have read. Heck I even went out and read all the info you used to have on the website linked in your sig(when did that stop working by the way?) and in the beginning I felt sorry for you. Thought....man that sucks....but after your endless whining and conspiracy theories about why you ended up in jail I just got sick of your not taking any personal responsibility. You seem like a decent guy, I have nothing against you personally, but the fact that you try to blame your problem on other people drives me nuts. I cannot stand people who will not take responsibility for their actions. I fired one not too long ago, he messed up then would not admit it and tried to blame someone else. Sure everyone messes up, but when you mess up you need to 1. admit your mistake 2. learn from your mistake. If you choose not to do those things, especially #1 then I have no use for you.

Dave's titles don't bother me one whit. He does it to grab our attention and it usually succeeds.

Also, we have some of our best discussions when one side takes an extreme view and creates some artificial dialectic tension that gets resolved (or sputters out) in the ensuing arguments. So, I rarely take such approaches too seriously. Also, complaining about the title is part of the dialectic tension, so I'm in favor of it.

If any of you have noticed, Isla engages obliquely and with a very light touch. As a consequence, you guys don't react very often and her points get ignored. So, if someone wants to pull a reaction out of you, they need to hit you over the head. Guys are just like that. You hit me, I'll hit you. This is why discussions over the internet are so unlike discussions person to person. Is the lack of constraint here better for getting a nub of truth out? Yes and no. Often instead of being direct, we are simply mean and out of focus and that is why some people don't hang around much.

Just an observation from someone who has made a lot of bad arguments in the past.

Regarding the substance of Dave's post, I'd say we've been essentially going it alone all along, except for the English. Hungary is being smart for several reasons, not the least of which is the high cost of maintaining an armed force in a foreign land.

Good post, Robert.

The "coalition of the bribed" was window dressing to begin with. Everybody knows that in essence the US attack was a unilateral action.
