I recently (see: an hour ago) put together a new pc. I have 2 160gb IDE WD 160gb drives that i was running in a raid 0 on my old system, and want to import onto my new system. Can this be done? All my RAID stuff seems to do is want to create an array, not recognize an existing one.

New System:

WinXP Pro w/SP1
Athlon 3500+ Venice
Thermalright XP-120
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1GB Corsair Twinx LL
80GB SATA WD
2x160gb WD (old RAID array, can't recognize now)
BFG NVIDIA 6800GT OC
SB Audigy 2 ZS

Basically the old system was the same, just pentium 4 3.0c
asus p4p800 motherboard, no SATA HD. used the RAID controller on ASUS mobo.

I think this should cover any relevant info, any help would be appreciated.

Ummm different raid controllers right? As far as I know it can't be done. Hookup enough on your old system, back it up, start fresh with the new system and new raid array.

That's what I was afraid of. Wish I had known that before. When I searched the forums for answers that's what everything said, but they were also in regards to SATA arrays. I guess I was hoping somehow IDE would be different, but alas.

Put your raid drives back in your old system and xfr your files over cat5. That's about all you can do. UNLESS you were running your original raid array off of a pci raid card and not a mobo raid chipset. In that case you should be able to install the raid card in your new system, connect the drives, and get at your stuff.

It was from the old motherboard. On the Asus I think it used a VIA 6140 chipset or something similar. I sold my old computer with that mobo though, I'll just have to call the guy and ask him to let me borrow it for a couple hours I guess. I only used RAID for the convenience of 1 drive, but I tell ya, it's proving to be very inconvenient now. That's what I get for being lazy and not backing up. Too bad you can't do some type of software emulation. What's the reason that all these dozens of chipsets are all different? That seems very disingenuous to me.
