heh, i'm on the fence about this one.

I went to wilmington last year (freshman year), enjoyed the beach and the school alot. Now my mom says she would give me a car (probably the one she owns currently, or another better car if i commute from home. The car she has currently is a 2001 maxima, with 90% of the driving being highway miles (i belive only 60k miles so far)

Weighing the choices

Wilmington
-beach
-great atmosphear (sp?)
-had a job building webpages, could possibly get the job back
-4 hours away from home
-keeping my 1998 chevy http://images.google.com/images?q=1998%...client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&sa=N&tab=wi

Staying at home
-Privacy (my own bathroom, and bedroom)
-new car, either a 02 jetta 1.8t or my moms 01 maxima GLE
-i have a job now working for a computer company, and a really great boss.
-i will have to commute (30-35 min drive to school, 20-25 min drive to work)

I believe i want to stay at home, but was wondering what others would do in my situation. Right now i'm 19, and would really enjoy a new car, so if i stayed it would be because of the car and job, not really because of the college, and if i went to wilmington it would be because of the college. i'm at a delema, and the options aren't on the same playing field so i'm having a hard time.

ahh, yeah i have thought about this. The specs are as follows..

140k miles
was owned by a company, so it was beat to hell, it terms of driving
Runs fine, sputters at startup sometimes
watter spray nossels on wipers don't work, head lights dont cut off (the lights have an off position), plastic casing on the handle (driver side inside door) is in process of falling off.

*edit for clarity

Always live on campus when you go to school, at least for the first year. You'll really miss the college experience otherwise - it'll be like you never left high school. Besides, living in the dorms is a lot of fun, despite the inconveniences.

Watter spray nozzles, handle repair, and headlight switch are all fixable for less than $50.

i did for the first year, and really, really, really, really, lived life like it was ment to be lived. I missed it when i first came back, but now that i'm use to living at home, i really don't miss it that much any more. (And my two best friends that went there, the only two people that i really cared about hangin out with, were both kicked out, heh, but that is another story)

Seahawk alum in da house! Class of 97, major CS.

ANyways, the beach is overrated. If you're like most people on this board, you are pale skinned, geeky, and afraid of women. You don't belong on the beach j/k And for goodness sake, you're in college, LEARD TO FRICKIN SPELL YOU IGNORANT BASTAGE!@!!! How the hell did you get into UNCW anyways?

College is for social interaction. Stay on campus, live the dorm life, meet beautiful women (UNCW is ripe for the pickens), go out get drunk and hang with stupid frat boys. Live life while you still can, you have 50 or more years to work your ass off, enjoy it now while you can.

Why do I say this? Because I did the opposite of all I just said and I'm 30 and regretting it. I stayed at home, went to a community college for 2 years and transferred to UNCW. I was accepted to UNCW right out of hs, but decided to stay home and work. Then when I got to UNCW I lived off campus, worked my ass off at the Wendy's on S. College Rd across from where Walmart used to be, and missed out on a lot of fun stuff. I'm doing well now and am financially stable, but man I wish I could have enjoyed college more.

My sister went to UNC-W (I go to ECU).

Dude, the babes of UNC-W are freaking hot hot hot. If I were you, I would stay at UNC-W. Having a car with 100k+ miles isn't really that bad. You probably won't be driving around that much if you're living on campus, anyway. If family is most important, then, well...stay in Charlotte.

Go. Away. For. College.

Living at home for college is the worst decision anyone can make.

Live on campus near a beach or live at home with your mom? There's a debate here?

unless you are majoring in a marine or aquatic major, I would forgo UNCW. Basically, all of my class that could not get into a major university...including the mighty East Carolina got accepted at UNCW.

What will you be majoring in?

Living at home and going to college is a no no as well.

I pick c None of the above

i love my parents, but i would never voluntarily again live at home for any extended amount of time

shame on her for trying to bribe you with a car

i dont know anything about the schools, but if one is much better than the other, that would be a big factor also

Do not live at home. My college roommate's house was about 100 yards from campus, and he lived in the dorm/apartment rather than living at home.

I expected a better response from you Nitemare, you seemed like an intelligent person. There's nothing wrong with UNCW's programs. I'm a product of their computer science department and have done very well for myself. Even if I did stay at home watch ST:TNG in my underwear surfing pron.

Seriously? I was under the impression that UNCW was harder to get into than ECU. Anyway...

UNCW? UNCC is a good school too though...

about 3 or 4 years ago UNCW was very easy to get into as a freshman, now UNCW is the hardest school to get into in north Carolina, because the can only accept something in the neighbor hood of 20% of the incomming applications, because of space

edit - state schools only
