I just came acrosss some very important unlocking info for users of the KT333 based 8K5A2, 8K5A2+, or 8K5A3+. As many of you might know, the common way of unlocking the Tbred "B"'s lower multipliers, on a pre KT400/Nforce2 board requires the closing of the last L3 bridge. Well, this seems to work fine on every other KT333 board, but on the Epox, something different is required. Apparently, for reasons unknown to me, on the Epox boards you need to close the last two L3 bridges (4 and 5) to succesfully have access to the 12.5 and below multipliers.

After many tries closing the last L3 on my new 2400+, I kept being unable to change the multiplier to anything under 15 (default). After doing some research on the AOA forums, I found a few people with similar issues and it was solved by closing the last two L3 bridges. So, I took my 2400+ out, cleaned up the bridges, and used my Highspeed PC XP unlocking kit to close the last two L3's and voilla! The CPU will boot up as a 1ghz Athlon by default after the mod (7.5 x 133), but the multipliers below 12.5 all work now.

I figured this might save someone some headaches when trying to unlock their 2400+ on the Epox..

Installing XP @ 175mhz FSB, 2ghz, 1.65v. Once I get a baseline established, I'll go from there. I don't intend to run it over 1.85v, so I'm only shooting for the 2.2ghz range...

Insane3D,

Do you remember if the last L5 bridge of your 2400+ cut or connected?

The last two, 4 and 5 were cut. The first three were not..neither were any of the L1's...

Currently @ 12 x 180, 2.18ghz, 1.65v, CL2 3-6-3..

I run an Athlon 2400+ with an Epox 8k5a3+ and I only had to bridge the last L3 pins.. don't know why, but I can use <= 12.5.

Interesting...maybe it's a 8K5A2+ bios thing? Weird...

Oh well..chugging along now @ 185mhz FSB, 2.23ghz, default vcore...can't complain.

Hi Insane3D,
Can't quarrel with success, but when the last 2 L3s are closed the default Multiplier is reset to 11X, ie, all Bit Value Signal Busses LO.
So your system should have booted at 11XFSB, whatever your FSB was set at. This makes your experience "very strange" indeed.
Did your system actually boot at 7.5X133???...or was it a case of the Multiplier maybe having been preset at 7.5X previously in the bios?? Can you disengage any bios setting then see what it boots at??
Regards Buddy,
John C.

Nope, it boots @ 7.5 everytime. I had done a CMOs clear before I started it up, and whenever it is set to auto, it boots @ 7.5. Also, to add to the strangeness, if I set anything above 12 in the bios (there is no 12.5 for some reason), it will just boot @ 12.5. Oh well, hard to complain with 2.2ghz and 185mhz FSB with no extra voltage.

This board is just a temporary home anyways, it's more permanent home will likely be the Epox NForce2 board, the 8RDA+. The Nforce2 should need no L3 modification.

pci would be around 37
agp around 74

i dont think its physically alter pci/agp clocks on kt333 boards (even for kt400/nforce2 boards, i believe there is only agp 66 available)

most likely the radeon might not like teh high agp, and will crap out
onboard lan/sound would maybe still work fine, as most devices start to crap out around 38mhz+ for pci

thx, thats what I thought. Might epox ever release a bios that includes a 6:2:1 ratio or is that limited by the hardware?
