The hardest part about planning my next system overhaul has been choosing a new monitor. I'm currently using a 20" NEC 1600x1050, but I want to upgrade to a nice 24" 1900x1200 display. I've heard mostly good things about the HP ZR24w. At around $390-$415 it easily fits within my budget. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this monitor? I will be using it for gaming and general internet browsing only.

Or, if you have any other suggestions on 1900x1200 displays please share. () I'd like to keep it under $600 if possible though.

There's a 94 page thread on [H] about this monitor.

That said, I've had mine since it was originally released and it's been nothing short of amazing.

I'm in the market for this too. The major comparison seems to be this HP and the Dell U2410.

I have the U2410, it is amazing monitor. Play Bad Company 2, Team Fortress 2, etc its fantastic looking.

I have also heard good things about the HP, but I LOVE the dell support. They are easy to deal with if you ever have to for some reason.

The hard part about choosing monitors is that you often can't compare them in person or side-by-side. What looks good to one may not look good to another. I'm guessing the Dell U2410 is also 1920x1200 right?

I'm wondering, does scaling 1080p content impact the performance on a 1200p anyway over a 1080p monitor?

Love my HP ZR24w so far. It really trounces my Samsung 245BW once it was calibrated a bit. Great colors, actually decent blacks, low input lag and no perceivable ghosting and good viewing angles. Price is right too, can be had for around $380-390 shipped pretty easily. I liked my first enough to order 2 more to complete my eyefinity setup. They should be here tomorrow.

Bought this for my brother's system and I really like the screen. May get one for myself at some point.

Wow, that TFT Central review was excellent. Lots of good info there. One question, how noticeable of a difference do 120Hz screens offer for gaming? I don't do much super fast motion FPS type gaming, mostly RPGs. Would I benefit much from a 120Hz monitor over this one?

I would say that unless you do tons of fast paced fps games, 120hz is not really necessary. Plus as far as a know, all 120hz monitors are based on TN panels and suffer from their poor viewing angles and color shifting, both problems I cannot stand. I personally use my HP setup for Battlefield BC2 and I do not feel that I am lacking in response at all. One bonus of 120hz monitors though is that they can be 3d capable, where 60hz monitors are not.

Good to know all of this. I ordered this blind because my 21" Sony CRT is on the fritz and I saw that this monitor has an H-IPS panel.

1080p content should not be scaled for a 1920x1200 monitor. 1920x1200 monitors are taller than 1920x1080 screens, so optimal performance and picture quality is obtained by not scaling, and leaving small areas at the top and bottom of the screen unused.

I just set up the monitor.

It is very blue compared to my Acer AL2416W with a PVA panel. I guess I will have to get used to them next to each other.
