Hello all, im a fellow member of the Whatthetech forums but i have noticed a complete lack of activity over there lately. Its like the twlight zone and im the last man standing. So with that being said, im turning my attention to this forum and hope that some of the techs here can assist me and help me resolve the issue with my computer.

Let me start off by stating that this is a new PC build of mine. Its only been in operation for around 3 months.

I have a problem with improper shut downs, the computer is just shutting down. It happens about once every 2-3 days, 6 days at the most without a shut down. I have tried practically everything I can think of in order to isolate the issue. At first I thought it was Win updates since i just recently built a new computer so I had to install quite a few security patch updates for WIN11. I noticed also in doing so, the system would boot to the bios instead of windows after the improper shut down. I am forced to shut down my system completly and then restart in order for it to boot back to windows. I want to make it clear that it seems like the shut downs are not just crashes from the CPU. I think the system is pooling the re-sources and data and saving whats left over to the RAM before initiating the shut down, rather then like pulling the plug from the back of the computer but I am not an expert Its just what I have observed.

There is one very major critical mistake i made during this PC build. I accidently plugged in a modular cable from a EVGA PSU into a Corsair and ended up frying the whole damn system. I have since worked hard to try and replace as many components as I can.

I have re-installed a brand new PSU, thinking potentually maybe the PSU could be the culprit naturally when you fry a computer. I also replaced 2 PCI-E USB expansion cards which were completly dead. I also replaced the CPU and upgraded to a better motherboard. In the preocess of replacing these components I did notice that the frequency of shut downs was reduced by a huge margin after replacing the motherboard. So clearly my previous motherboard contributed to alot of my problerms.

Currently now I have recieved one improper shut down today and I am getting the black screen of death a few times. I do want to stress the only component I have not replaced is the graphics card. Everything else in the PC is brand new including the HDD, mobo, ram, CPU, PSU, and even the cables have been changed out.

I used a Burn-in Test by passmark to stress some of my components such as the CPU and graphics card in the event that maybe some of them could be damaged. All the tests passed and there wasn't any issues present. How ever to troubleshoot this further, I started to anayalize the event viewer to see where these critical errors are coming from in the logs.

I did notice that Hyper Visor error popped up stating "The hypervisor did not enable mitigations for side channel vulnerabilities for virtual machines because HyperThreading is enabled. To enable mitigations for virtual machines, disable HyperThreading". This error was within 1 min interval of the shut down as time stamped in the logs. This is very consistent that every time i get a shut down, the hyper visor error is displayed. I don't know if this really means anything, it could just be a common error during a shut down. I also tested my memory using memtest86 and ran it over night to complete all 16 tests. It pasts with 0 errors which indicates that my ram is ok.

I am at a complete loss at this point, the only thing I can truly do is just replace my graphics card but I don't know how a bad graphics card would cause a shut down. I am the point now that I feel like this is a problem that more so consistutes a configuration with the BIOS and its hardware specifications in terms of memory clock, but I really don't know. So if if there is any kind of troubleshooting or advice you can give me to isolate and fix this issue, that would be great.

I don't know the exact rules for posting here but I do have a specy profile that I can link to so you can see all the hardware specifications of my PC that are currently installed in the system, that way you can determine rather or not I have imcompatable hardware.

I would prefer if we can test all the hardware and make sure the configurations are set to the optimal standards to run this system effeciently.

IF there is any more software you want me to use for gathering logs and more information pertaining to this problem, then ill be awaiting your reply. Thank you.

I'd start with the basics, run Prime 95's large in place FFT's test for a couple hours, monitoring CPU temperature and if it reports errors or crashes doing ONLY that with the system.

I'd boot to memtest86+ and test memory for a few hours.

I'd leave it sitting in the bios to check voltages or even better if you have a multimeter and can use it while running Prime 95 or a gaming benchmark.

I think the system is pooling the re-sources and data and saving whats left over to the RAM before initiating the shut down

What exactly are you seeing that leads you to this conclusion? Do you have the system set to hibernate instead of shut off based on certain events? Is it possible that your case has a faulty power switch that is making intermittent contact, occasionally? If that is possible, unplug it's connector from the motherboard for a few days to see if that helps. It's not a common problem but I've read of it happening more than once.

That's a heck of a lot of HDDs you have listed in the specs, have you considered building a NAS for your storage, or is this system used as (only?) a NAS? Another thing I'd try is disconnecting everything that's non-essential to run the system, run that config for a few days, add back a few things at a time, trying to isolate if anything you add back is causing the problem, or too much load on the PSU. Unless I missed it, the specs listed do not list which PSU it is. Granted several of the HDDs are USB so presumably external AC/DC adapter powered?
